Realistically, the state can impose standards on the clinics. But they should not be any different than the standards imposed on any free standing surgical center. Do they tell plastic surgery centers what temperature to keep their facilities at, or how large the janitor's closets should be? If not, then that would be the argument their attorneys should be making in my opinion.
A surgical center should have different standards than a basic, no surgery, medical clinic. But a surgical center is a surgical center. Yes, they might have to keep different drugs on hand, and of course, depending on the type of surgery, the proper equipment, but essentially they wouldn't be all that different.
Making the primary argument that abortion clinics are being singled out instead of having the same compliance regulations as all types of surgical centers will allow the judges hearing the cases to not have to discuss Roe v. Wade. Make it a discrimination issue instead of an abortion issue.
In other words back door the people trying to back door you.
