Seems the chambermaid has a habit of being economical with the truth.

So it's beginning to seem!

Of course, if it turns out to be the case that the maid has been saying a bit more more than her prayers, an awful lot of people are going to have beat some hasty retreats and make some fulsome retractions ..... including many who rushed to judgement very loudly here on these boards.

I would like to think that's going to happen ... but I fear that's wishful thinking ......

Well, of course the defense goes after her credibility - that's their defense.

Ah, I see the prosecution is not happy with their witness: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/01/nyregion/strauss-kahn-case-seen-as-in-jeopardy.html?_r=2&hp

I don't think it will be enough to get him back into the French elections, but I don't think they'll suffer too much from the loss.

Here's where things were before the incident:

http://www.franceinlondon.com/en-Article-758-Top-5-Questions-of-the-2012-Presidential-Election-Politics--election-strauss-kahn.html

In any case, the prosecutors may have felt the need to investigate the accuser further after questioning why someone who had supposedly committed a serious crime would call back to the scene for sake of retrieving a cell phone. At least that's what troubled me about the original story.

The linked articles in both the OP and in your post state that it was the prosecution, not the defense, who discovered this information.

Yes, hence my bolded comment and link to the NYT piece

Well I looked at a few of the past threads on the subject, but obviously I am not good at searching because I couldn't find the posts you were refering to. Maybe you could help a boi out and post a link or two?

I hate when women lie about things of this nature.  It makes it harder for every other woman when they come forward, not to mention the stigma that follows the accused.

I don't know about the obligation anyone here has to 'beat a retreat' If we were fed a line of shit, we sat at the table with a many millions of people.
I don't see it as the fault of anyone here if they objected to a pretty nasty behavior, as long as, ONCE SUFFICIENT FACTS ARE MADE PUBLIC, to offer an apology or retract anything.
I think perhaps the media are the entities in need of the 'hasty retreat' and apology... Good luck extracting that.

That said The guy is STILL under indictment, and till the charges are dropped, this is one more thing I think this guy is a SHITBAG... and probably among the lesser of his offenses.

[Emphasis mine]

I learned my lesson during the Duke "rape" case. "Of course they're guilty! They're a bunch of drunken white rich preppy college athletes! That means they are racists, sexists assholes and... what? They didn't do it? Oh."

So now, when I find myself thinking things like: Rich bastard! Of course he raped her! I remind myself that I wasn't there and I don't know any of the people involved. Maybe he raped her, maybe he didn't... that's what the court system is for.

I didn't have any trouble finding posts that might be considered a rush to judgment in these threads.

And of course he breaks out those same 'scales of justice' every time he sees someone indicted.

I think when I saw this guy in the news, I first thought "Good, well at least they'll get him for something he's done. Won't make up for all the faceless people who's livelihoods he's fucked with in his post, but it's something".  And I still feel pretty comfortable thinking, it's a rape case and the defendant has among the deepest pockets we've seen in a long long time. Counter allegations are to be expected. They call it posturing.
Certain things remain COMPLETELY unexplained and HIGHLY suspicious. Like his sudden flight to the airport to a chartered flight

Today's revelations don't explain The other rape accusations dogging him

And MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, We'll have to hand this one off to Art Bell for closer scrutiny...

Bottom line I think is that people reacted to what they were presented with. If anything, this sort of makes me think that the news outlets are just plain fucked.

That's kind of my point. We react to what we are presented with but how can we truly know that what we are presented with is accurate? I refuse to hate someone just because the media tells me I should.

This is true. I have a feeling people will remember that he was accused, but how many will remember if he gets off. It reminds me of the doctor who was accused of taking inappropriate pics of kids and was finally found innocent, but not until after he had lost his family and career.

I saw them and the first one seemed to focus more on how the different countries handed rape than focusing on whether he was actually guilty or not and the second one slamming eternal for comparing rape to consensual sex. Now there were some who seemed to think he was probibly guilty, but I didn't see a lot of judgement there.

I also agree with you on this point "Pity we don't seem to believe that people are innocent until proven guilty anymore" I wonder if it has anything to do with how the media plays the stories we read.

Now link the Duke rape case to one of the libs favorite whines about the honorable Gov. of NJ. :)

We're not disagreeing at all ,,, but I would say that I've had reason to and have, disliked this guy from well before he turned into a ALLEGED serial rapist, for all the strides he and his organization have made to improve our lives and work towards replacement of messy representative government around the world.

I'm glad he got himself a perfect attorney. Ben's defended all the greats Michael Jackson (child sexual abuse), Vincent “Chin” Gigante (Racketeering and Murder),  Sammy The Bull Gravano (Murder and Racketeering)... and the list goes on and on

“Ben Brafman: Congratulations on the acquittal in People v. Combs,”  was the ad the esteemed Carmine Angelino paid to have placed in the NY Law Journal... You just can't get a higher praise than from Carmine ... well not and talk about it.
