$4 Trillion.

That's what the Iraq/Afghanistan(Pakistan) wars have cost us to date. $4 trillion. A decade of waste.

225,000 killed. 6,000 U.S. service personnel lost.

A dumb idea that keeps on giving.

pahunkboy -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/1/2011 11:25:15 AM)

How would you fix this MM?

Anyone?

Tim,

You know by bringing this up you'll be labeled leftist, liberal, unpatriotic, ad nauseum by some on this board.

But just imagine the infrastucture and technological development that $ figure would have provided for this country.

pahunkboy -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/1/2011 12:17:00 PM)

It is not serious money until it hits the trillions.

At least they finally admit it.

DarkSteven -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/1/2011 12:55:49 PM)

But just look at all we've accomplished there!

Don't rush me - I'll think of something.

Musicmystery -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/1/2011 2:43:01 PM)

I'll admit it helped out Haliburton quite a bit.

provfivetine -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/1/2011 3:44:10 PM)

Does the 4 trillion figure include this?

OrionTheWolf -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/1/2011 3:44:54 PM)

I agree. Looking at this figure and then the articles on the budget talks makes me face palm.

Thanks to Slick Willie, who was responsible for their first major no bid contracts and contributed mightily to their growth by eliminating their competiion to the point where even Blowboy's admin is forced to renew their contracts.

"The realm of war and peace exists separately apart — and justifiably so — from the economic realm," says Lawrence Kaplan, a visiting professor at the U.S. Army War College. He contends that critics like Manchin are looking for "economic answers to a non-economic question."

Edwynn -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/1/2011 7:41:45 PM)

So you agree with someone who misses the point entirely. Not any surprise.

The indisputable historical proof is that 'economic' considerations of the few are instigation to many a war or revolution (the far greater majority, actually), as is economic destruction of the many.

Termyn8or -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/1/2011 11:32:42 PM)

TO OP

Nobody cares since THEY know we are going to default. That while they take their booty to Europe and other places. It is already underway. The largest defense contractor for the US moved out, what the fuck do you think that means ? They told you means nothing ? That is complete fucking bullshit.

T^T

ClassIsInSession -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/1/2011 11:41:46 PM)

Yeah and now Mr. I'm Going to Bring The Troops Home is starting illegal wars with Libya, a country that is no threat to us...go figure. It's sort of like stupid investors that throw more money into a sinking ship.

Termyn8or -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/1/2011 11:53:30 PM)

It would be nice if it was their own fucking money.

T^T

Edwynn -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/2/2011 12:05:20 AM)

No argument here, Libya is a very poor imitation of the real thing: invading a country under completely and willfully false pretense, killing 120,000-and-counting civilians and welcome-to-30-year's deficits.

That said, it might be that a president that does not maintain a war of some sort might be shot six months into office if he doesn't make the mark on that one (I don't know where that came from). I can't figure out any other explanation of  all this crap.

If the job gets done in Libya in 6 months, then 'the forces' (whatever that means nowadays) are gone no more than a year from that, we can call it a freaking miracle here. Not that I'm counting on it.

Yeah, because Iraq REALLY had those WMD's right? Iraq was no threat to the USA, and yet we STILL invaded it. In fact, the grand majority of that $4 Trillion is directly related to Iraq, not Afghanistan or Libya. Yeah, your right, its like stupid investors, but in this case, it was stupid voters that got Bush in to office and than re-elected AFTER it became known that Iraq didn't have those WMD's.

And the same voters as above who voted the  people into office responsible for throwing more of all citizens' tax dollars (and argue for more still) into more tax breaks for those responsible for mega-millions in oil spills, idiotic invasions and subsequent war upkeep, mass foreclosures of these same citizens, the majority of them instigated and processed by further fraud of the banks we spent trillions in bailing out.

Because it 'creates jobs.'

After millions of job losses and the acknowledged outlook of long term unemployment for these millions of people, we're still looking for the numbers to verify that, but just give it time.

A long time.

ladyneedshelp -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/2/2011 1:49:36 AM)

When ever I read "reports" like this I Google the "facts"

According to the center of defense and congressional research services a total of 1.2 trillion has so far been alloted for all wars since 9/11....this price includes not only the war, but bases security reconstruction foreign aid embassy and vet health care................ Hummmmm?

According to the dept of defense YTD fatilities 6118 in Iraq and Afghanistan........ Again hummmmm.....the numbers seem to vary quite bit from some reporters numbers.......might that be because the reporter is using some ginned up numbers or maybe he counting total numbers from all sides and making it look like its all U.S. cost?

Not that the lower numbers justify the wars.....but why would a reporter want to gin up the numbers and why would anyone believe what a reporter says with out varifying the numbers if possible?

Edwynn -> RE: $4 Trillion (7/2/2011 2:19:28 AM)

When you run your car off the road during an illegal street race and run over a bunch people at a cookout and slam into numerous parked cars and then ram through the living room and finally come to a stop after destroying the kitchen-  is accounting for damage beyond your own car and own broken fingernail 'ginning up numbers?'

'hmmm' indeed.

Go back to sleep girl, you look tired.
