At home I have the Sock Filing System. Yes, I do. Mock me if you will (and I KNOW you will!) but I can find matching socks in the dark!

OMG! I have a couple of the stacked plastic rolling bins I only use for socks. They are seperated by color and length. I hate scrounging for socks in a tossed about drawer. And my socks color has to match my outfit.

Cracks me up. This thread isn't about OCD, it's about women being prim. The only male to have contributed, with his alphabetically-ordered book-collection, was promptly told that his example didn't qualify because it was entirely reasonable. [:D]

I've been called a lot of things in my life (and some of them rightfully so) but prim? Never! You take that back[8D]

I believe that Sweets has slight OCD. He doesn't drive ANYWHERE that he doesn't know how to get there. He is afraid to get lost. He Went completely out of his way one day to see me because he was afraid to get lost. I told him "GO STRAIGHT" and he was so scared that I wasn't right, that he went home first (about 35 minutes away) before coming to see me (Another 30 minutes). When it would have taken him 10 minutes total to get there.

I also noticed today that he is lost if his rutine is disrupted.... I did his laundry last night, and it wasn't completely dry when he got up. He sets his alarm for 2 hours before he has to be at work. we are staying with my mom which is 3 minutes away from his work. So he had lots of time to dry his clothes and still be there on time. If it was me, I would have turned the drier on again, and just did everything else I had to do to get ready. But not him. He sat on the edge of the bed for about a half hour, pulled his still wet clothes out of the drier, and put them on so he could finish getting ready for work. All he had to do is eat some breakfast and have a cigarette. And he wouldn't do that without being dressed first.

Last night, I asked him to take a shower early so I could do the laundry early so I wasn't up until the middle of the night doing laundry. But he didn't have a shirt to put on afterwards. So he wouldn't do it.... It doesn't matter that he was sweating like crazy, it was about 90 degrees in this house, and no one was going to see him without his shirt on.... But he still wouldn't do it. I still was up way too late....

I love him

I am OCD about my ashtrays. I do not like the sight of cigarette butts. I also cannot STAND to see another person's cigarette butts in my ashtray if I am in a group of people who smoke. I have to constantly dump them out or get my own. I will use an empty soda bottle to put the butts in after they cool off and toss the ashes out. (Ask Linea, she's seen me do this plenty of times.) LOL... [:D]

Guilty of this one as well. Though I kept a coffee can for dumping the hot ashes. Now that it is just me, I smoke outside, no more problems.

I am too ADD to be OCD.. LOL

LadyConstanze -> RE: What "ocd" habits do you have? (7/7/2011 5:40:30 AM)

I have to have a cigarette with my first cup of coffee, I take inhale exactly twice, then put the ciggy into the ashtray and watch it burn down to the filter while being on the porch... Without that ritual, my day doesn't start right...

KMsAngel -> RE: What "ocd" habits do you have? (7/7/2011 6:14:05 AM)

not strictly OCD as it doesn't cause me personal distress, but it occasionally precipitates distress in those around me if i haven't had my morning coffee.

I would think that about myself also but it is possible to be both. My spare bedroom/closet/storage room looks like a tornado went through it...........but my bath towels are all folded and stacked just so, in the bathroom next door.

GreedyTop -> RE: What "ocd" habits do you have? (7/7/2011 7:16:41 AM)

send some of that combo to me, will ya?

ask my Mom
disorganization is normal, for me.. I just dont have the attention span to organize (even though I have all the best intentions)

The key for me, is time. Anything that can be completely in a short amount of time, gets done. Long, boring tasks.........tend to not get done.

So I have to discipline myself to break it up into pieces. Now I do this by multi-tasking.... how successful that is depends upon the day. Some days, I have to admit I end up with a lot of stuff incomplete. Other days, if I am really pushing myself, at least some of the things actually get finished enough to check them off my list.

Another thing that really has helped my ADD self is to create 'To Do' lists of things I really really want to get accomplished and leave them where I am seeing them all day. If I don't, I tend to space off things. Lists are my friends.

GreedyTop -> RE: What "ocd" habits do you have? (7/7/2011 7:31:03 AM)

I've tried the list thing,...

sadly as soon as I have written them, they become 'landscape', and I no longer see them (until months, or even YEARS later)

meh..it is what it is, and I will deal as best I ............

ooooh.. SPARKLIES!!!!

I only smoke outside, too. It's just that when other people (say at a restaurant) have used the ashtray before me, I can't stand looking at their cigarette butts. Even on the back deck at work... before I light my cigarette, I have to empty the ashtray from the people who used it last, and start with an empty tray. LOL...

MistressK2011 -> RE: What "ocd" habits do you have? (7/8/2011 9:31:53 AM)

First time posting in this forum. . . .OCD-like I was disappointed to find that there is no check or clicky box to submit. lol

OCD (if you can justify your reason for it does that still make it OCD?)

- Socks, folded a certain way and facing a certain way in the plastic dresser bin (ditto for underwear) and sport socks have a place seperate from all other kinds
- If I'm nervous or bored I count things, so sometimes when washing dishes with another person I might say, "Oh where's that other (insert object here) even if I have 7 of the 8 sitting in front of me and #8 wasn't used."
- My feet must be dry at all times, if socks or feet get wet they must be dried promptly (like a cat stepping in water)
- Chairs must be pushed all the way in at the table, can't stand it when company leaves them out or not aligned with the table!!
- Glasses in the cupboard are organized by type and size
- Most things have a place, even if I'm the only one who 'gets it'
- Towel. . .well, you know
- Shoes must NEVER leave the protective boundary of the front door mat
- Dog's collar must be worn with tags down at chest like a necklace, I"ll actually fix it several times a day

I have more but I'm not tellin'.

The funny thing is if these silly OCD things are broken, I'm not the type to outwardly rave, and I'm learning to not go and fix. So I'll sit there, like an animal that really has to pee, attempting to make conversation while shifting my body so I can't see the offending 'whatever' while there is this vibrating thrumming sensation going through my body. lol

Clorox bleach

White towels

Clean white cottony sheets and pillow cases-changed weekly.

Can be a slob about most other things, but thanks to fly-lady, I'm very organized.

dovie

and I agree with sunny about the books. As a fellow bibliophile, forget about order. And you better not move them either, I know exactly where I put what book.

I can't sleep with the closet door open.
