As anybody with decent musical taste knows, Leonard Cohen is simply a genius!! He has written dozens and dozens of deep meaningful songs, which ones are you? Not which is your favorite, but which ones somehow describes you the best in some way. Try to keep it to two or three selections please.

Take This Longing
Heart With No Companion

This is a lot harder question to answer than it at first seems, I've changed my mind about six times so far, and I'm still not really satisfied with my choices. [:D]

Here's a good site to help you choose:

OMG!!! I have to keep it down to how many?? Sheesh! I gotta run, but when I come back tonight, I'll do what I can. The man is an absolutely brilliant poet!

Arpig -> RE: What Cohen Songs Are You? (7/2/2011 7:08:24 PM)

Oh crapola! This won't be easy...let's see.......well if I over think it I'll never decide, so I'm just going with the first three that come to mind. I'm sure I will be along to revise my choices before too long.

Field Commander Cohen
Dress Rehearsal Rag
Death of A Ladies' Man

Google is your friend. Or you can look him up on Youtube. He is a singer/songwriter and a most beautiful poet. I'll bet you've heard his songs done as covers by other singers. Click on one of the links here. Try the ones in my post. I guarantee you won't be sorry.

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: What Cohen Songs Are You? (7/4/2011 10:55:11 AM)

My first choice was just too easy: Dear Heather. [:D]

The next ones were a bit harder to pick
Always
Love Calls you By Your Name

Though 6 months ago I would have chosen the same one Pam did.

I know this is supposed to be about what songs I am, but I also have one that is Hanners to me: Our Lady of Solitude.

And this song always makes me think of Arpig

Thanks a lot!! I was already a little teary from your story & I knew that I shouldn't click on that link to your song for Hannah, but I did. I need more fucking kleenex!! This man is such an incredible poet. His songs are infused with emotion.

HannahLynHeather -> RE: What Cohen Songs Are You? (7/4/2011 11:03:09 AM)

a fucking tough assignment there ems, but one that rocks!

i tried to keep it down to three, but just fucking couldn't. 4 is as far as i could pare it down.
the first is an obscure piece, it was originally called i'm living on pills and only out as a demo, but it's recently been released under the title of i can't make the hills.
then come sort of in chronological fucking order: the traitor, the window, and light as a breeze.

my song for heather is the gypsy's wife.

Who appointed you the arbiter of "taste"? Do you even comprehend why its called "taste"? LC is a total bore, embraced by pseduo-intellectuals with no appreciation for melody. See...I can make asinine statements as easily as you.

HannahLynHeather -> RE: What Cohen Songs Are You? (7/4/2011 11:42:21 AM)

great moses' blistered feet man, don't you recognize a little fucking hyperbole used for comedic effect? i fucking swear, you're more argumentative than i am when i'm pmsing.

here's a fucking song for you, it's not cohen, but it's right fucking appropriate. you should put the link in your sig instead of quoting the biggest fucking bleeding heart liberal that ever walked the face of the earth.

Well I don't notice you offering to help me out with that. Fucking tease!!

Oh and Hannah, thanks for the Pills/Hills piece, I'd never heard that one at all. Never heard of the Book of Devotion project either.

Well I am using QR...to avoid offending obviously many....I listened to a few and nope...not for me....

But...I REALLY am an old biker chick...so my taste runs to the Head Bangers Ball, Heavy Metal, some blues, David Alan Cole(his riding stuff not his country stuff) Stevie Ray Vaughn, George Thouroughgood, and, probably due to my age, Dylan, some of the ballads from the 60's and 70's.

My fav:

It is called Panheads forever...and it makes me cry every time.

And of course Born to be Wild!!!!!
