I love the way America looks after its poor.
I love the way America looks after its racial minorities.
I love the way America looks after Israel.
I love the way America looks after the earth's resources.
I love the way America looks after it's finances.
God bless the American way....

I love your post mate!

What you both write of here is that while one can still appreciate almost all of American culture, her talents, its canyons, its breadth and its historical ideal, that what we see now are the remnants of that ideal, most of which indicating...she has lost her values. One is sorry to say...the UK is right behind us along with most of the west.

No, the U.K. is right beside you in the loss of values... It is in many ways even more distasteful. For instance, I do not believe the U.S. would ever give up its own to a foreign allied power based on nothing more than hearsay evidence.

Here's a cellphone pic from January 09. At the reception before the show, my buddy Dennis made the joke 'Oh, and you of course know my friend Bob Smith from the Smith Brothers Coughdrop Fortune" while we were shaking hands and wishing him a kickass show.

I'm proud to be an American--we got two chickens in every garage
And I wish every other kid could be one--in my country, the medium is the massage
'Cause it's impossible to give
Equality and justice to inferior foreigners
too jealous to trust us
Gimme your weak and your homeless
How 'bout checkin' the oil ah, fella?
I'm proud to be an American

God, the smarmy version doesn't even sound right in my head.

I am for the first time in America. My circumstances are such that I have little time to learn deeply of this land and its people. But still as that is, there are things of America of which I am most fond and grateful.

The people. In the world Americans are portrayed as cold and with concerns centered only on themselves. This I have found to be largely untrue. I have been greeted with warmth and a care most considerate by all I have dealt with. The few times my Beloved Helena and I have ventured to explore have been naught but a delight. Of all we have met, not one has been other than a friend in openness and concern. The vendor of hot dogs, when learning of the reason for our visiting America even was concerned. He vowed to light candles for my Beloved's recovery, this from a man whom I had but only purchased frankfurters. The people of this city, renowned for its lack of true soul have put the lie to this unfavourable view of Americans. Even the vulgarity has become in some way dear to me, though my Beloveds and I blush at it, much to the amusement of the ones speaking.

Also I am enamoured of the magnificence of the medical facilities and the competence and concern of the staff. I am aware that the quality of my Beloved's care is much a result of my ability to pay for such, but the skills are there for all. In thanks I have arranged a modest endowment to provide assistance for those unable to afford their care for cancers. This is but the least I am able to do in gratitude for the kindnesses that my Beloved has been shown by those of lesser means who also suffer from this scourge. They have without fail been a support and an encouragement to my beloved Miryam in this most frightening of times, for this I thank them a million times.

Also I love the varieties. In but a single day, I have dined on cuisine from 6 different cultures, and yet never did I venture beyond a few blocks. Upon the street I can hear languages from a dozen lands, it is a wondrous thing to behold a Hasidim conducting business with an Shi'a in peace and mutual respect.

And lastly, but in no way of the least, I love New York. Always will I cherish this memory of kindness, and always will I tell of the wondrous people of this greatest of cities. A decision I have made to purchase the suite I have leased, such that my Beloveds and I can freely return to this greatest of cities at our whim. We three are eager to further explore all that is to be found here.

I thank my Goddess for allowing me to see this land and its people, there is such depth of beauty in both that I had not known to be there. I ask Her blessings on this land and it's people, long may they prosper and find success in all they attempt. May America and it's beautiful people, not least those of you here upon Collarme who have been so kind to a stranger and foreigner, live in peace and joy, may all the dreams of each come to fruition. This I pray for each and all.

Be at peace
Aneka

British, but I love the scale of America. In comparison to the UK where practically every square mile is urbanized and you can go from one side of the country to the other in a matter of hours, the sheer sense of emptiness of some places in America is pretty wonderful in itself. I'm a big fan of westerns (or, at least, western-based books) and that sort of frontier-esque nothingness appeals to me a lot. However a lot of the things America has going for it besides that tend to be easily found in Europe, so that'd probably be the only real reason I like America more than elsewhere.

I can't imagine being as patriotic or as loving of my country as Americans seem to be, though. Perhaps I'm a bit cynical but I'd never particularly say that I 'loved' Britain.

Emigrating as soon as I possibly can, unless I can afford to live in London. I don't see the point of pushing things off until retirement, sod the money I might be earning in the UK, I'd prefer to be living somewhere doing a job that keeps me just afloat rather than pulling in shed loads in not-so-sunny Birmingham.
