I keep thinking about this as we watch "legends" of our time pass away.  I then look around and i wonder, who will be the legends 30-50 years from now?

I mean we have The Duke, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Elvis, Shirley Temple, JFK, Marilyn, Betty Davis, Michael Jordan, Wilt, Magic, Princess Di etc.  etc.  To name a very few of my own beliefs of people who are legends in to a lot of us in our late 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s.

In this day and age that changes so fast and 15 minutes of fame is just that nowadays, do you think the legends of tomorrow will have the strength of time to carry them through to be considered legends?

Who do you believe will be considered legends 50-60 years from now?

Have fun with it -- say who and why.    And for giggles, if you want to name a legend of today you think they are comparable too that would be cool also.  I am having a hard time seeing really anyone nowadays comparable to our legends (could be i am just bias lol).

I am and always was a legend in my own mind. Look up to yourself first before you look up to other people.

I am just trying to think of people that I will see a movie, or buy music........just because 'they' did it. People with a track record of great work.

Pacino, DeNiro, Nicholson, The Stones, Tom Hanks.......and many others.

If you mean the youngsters just beginning.....wow, it's hard to say who is going to stick yanno. I remember arguing with my daughter over who was better Britney Spears or Christina Aquilera......today she concedes that Spears doesn't hold a candle. But will Aquilera 'stick'.....I don't know.

I think as far as younger actors go, there is a lot of unrealized talent. Another of my daughter's girl hood crushes, DeCaprio.....has really proven himself to have the ability. Lohan COULD be a great actress if she got her shit together.

You know, I've always thought the same thing. If she ever got the right vehicle, she could really shine. Sort of like Gere in Mr. Jones. Unfortunately he never followed up on that wonderful performance.

Really nobody stands out to me. There just aren't any Johnny Depps, Glen Closes, or Steve Earles on the current scene. A lot of pretty faces and unrealized potential, but not a lot of substance really.

Steve Earle is already a legend for getting off the single best quote ever about Shania Twain, when he called her, "The highest paid lap dancer in Nashville"

The only current person I can call a legend is Bruce Springsteen.

I consider Depp, Earle, Close, Springsteen, etc. to already be legends.

Another great SE quote, this one regarding Townes van Zandt: "the best songwriter in the whole world and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that."

When Townes heard about the remark he replied: "I've met Bob Dylan, and his bodyguards wouldn't let Steve Earle anywhere near his coffee table."

There's a whole group of young actors - Selena Gomez and the like - that sing, dance, act (movies and TV) and are the subject of chapter books. They've already lasted a number of years. I think that they are for my daughter the equivalent of what the "Brat Pack" was for me - Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, etc. Especially as they start to grow older and do more grown up roles.

Though I am not into it myself, my daughter's friends were completely enthralled with the royal wedding, just like I was with Di and Charles. I suspect Kate will serve the same role that Di did in that way.

most of the ones I think of are already, IMO, legend.. Depp, DiCaprio (if ya havent seen "what's eating gilbert grape" - with both depp and dicaprio.. SEE IT).

ALAN RICKMAN!!

I think the Harry Potter kids have the potential...  assuming they continue acting, and can find good vehicles.

Musically, I'm pretty much outta the loop, since the bands/artists I would list are pretty much already either 'legends' or footnotes..LOL

Add to my previous list: Carol Burnett and Sean Connery.  Perhaps Raquel Welch.  And Dnomyar.

How come the truly talented are often the truly fucked up?

Like Robert Downey Junior, for instance... in his case he got over it

I think they do too, especially Emma Watson, she is just adorable. I told my son I want someone just like her for the mother of my grandkids, and he said "You and me both, mom!"
