Chase jailed a man on suspicion of writing a fraudulent check.  They had issued it.

He ended up spending five days in jail, and losing his vehicle as a result.  He couldn't afford the tow and impound fees (Chase didn't reissue the check and the cops held it for two months) so they auctioned the car off, and he thereupon lost his job without his vehicle.

He's black with an African name.  Hmmmmm.

He's got a lawyer.  Chase is screwed, and rightly so.

How could they not recognize a check that they issued?

There is a reason bank robbers were widely considered as folk heroes in certain regions during the 1930s.

Considering their conduct with foreclosure fraud in Florida and elsewhere, this conduct, as bad as it was for the poor man, is lightweight - http://seekingalpha.com/article/229048-mortgage-title-fraud-a-national-catastrophe

If you happily foreclose on and resell a few thousand pieces of residential property you don't have claim on or any clear or legal title to a month, what is jailing a few innocent men  to you?

As for Njoku, the only way he got any justice was to get the press involved, the vampires at Chase took a year as it was even then and still have not settled with him. If Satterlee had any professional ethics, he woudl charge Chase with false imprisonment filing a false police report, and malicious prosecution, just to light a bigger fire under the bank.

Profiling.  The guy had bounced checks before, was black in a white area, and had an African name.  He set off all kinds of red flags, which is fine, but acting on them without checking out his story was illegal and wrong.

When they figured out they had caused an innocent man to be taken to jail, they let it go with a voicemail to an individual detective? A jury would love that.

The statement from Chase that they'll be reaching out to him might best be carried out in the latest and most exciting Infinity on the market. Silver.

ClassIsInSession -> RE: The banks strike again. (7/7/2011 9:07:50 PM)

Chase is pure evil...they damn near ruined my life a few years ago, lack of fiduciary responsibility and totally violating the Fair Debt Collection Act. Nicely in Texas, it's legal to record conversations with or without knowledge or consent and admissable in court. Once they knew I had them in the cross hairs they got very agreeable.

Real0ne -> RE: The banks strike again. (7/7/2011 9:11:10 PM)

yep like gubmint they understand money very well when its about to come out of their pocket

Real0ne -> RE: The banks strike again. (7/7/2011 9:13:08 PM)

there was a florida case where false arrest damages were awarded to the tune of 68,000 per minute

"There is a reason bank robbers were widely considered as folk heroes in certain regions during the 1930s. "

Actually that dates back to the deconstruction, oops, they spell it reconstruction.

You think the KKK was after Blacks ? Nope. It happened after a time, when some of them went nuts. I don't blame them for going nuts because they were so fucked over. But if a court freed a Black for rape or some shit like that, the KKK went after the judge first. The courts also ruled on the law, which was that southern Whites had no rights. The judges hung first. The KKK of today bears no resemblence to the original. It's full of assholes now.

Mention Sherman in Savannah if you need a better look at what really was, and do it soon before all the old people die off. And remember even that is second hand.

We were so young then. We thought that others were the casue of our problems. What a bunch of dweebs. The Jews didn't do it, the Blacks didn't do it, WE DID IT. And them fucking asshole rednecks down south. Separate water fountains and shit, are you fucking kidding me ?

No you are not. Bigoted motherfuckers caused most of tis animousity, and we still ain't rid of it.

We were the stupidest fucking country in the world, and you know what, I think we still are.

I wish this poor guy a new car and enough folding money to score one of those houses they foreclosed on.

Banksters Suck

I dont think Chase is that screwed, they will offer a settlement that will be way less than they would offer a white guy... speaking of white guys, think a white guy would have spent 5 days in jail? hmmmm

Aneirin -> RE: The banks strike again. (7/8/2011 3:31:27 AM)

On another issue involving banks and money, I learned yesterday after a retailer had tested my £10 note with a chemical pen to see if it was legit, and me explaining I had just got that note out of a bank hole in the wall, so it should be legit, I was informed the bank does not test the money that comes out of it's machines, so if a hole in the wall has issued forged cash, the account holder is in deficit, as that sum has been withdrawn from their account. All I could think was bastard banks again.

It's disgusting what happened to that poor man. Imagining how depressed and angry he must have been.

In the US if you receive counterfeit money from an ATM you can file a claim under Regulation E of the Electronic Funds Transfer Act.

"Even the courts cant protect them anymore "

Does this mean the end of the reconstruction ?

You are probably the only one here who can see the "pun" in that sentence.

To clarify, he has a West African name. Things like this are one of the lesser publicized consequences of the massive numbers of internet and fake check scams originating from West Africa.

As usual, it is the honest, hard working people that pay for the fact that criminals have ruined their own countries' reputations to the point that legit West African businesses are often spurned right off by businesses and potential customers in other nations, and students/ immigrants from Nigeria and Ghana (as well as citizens with West African names) are often treated with suspicion right off by banks, landlords and potential employers. Said criminals, of course, couldn't give a fuck less.

That said, the 'Chase customer banker who handles large checks' fucked up BIG time and I hope for their sake that Chase fires her stupid ass before she cashes a $150,000 fake check presented by a white guy named Dwight Smith because it 'looks real' [8|]

As for Chase, they are pretty much in the shit now that the story is public. Hopefully, the legal action and publicity will force Chase to, however unwillingly, do right by Mr. Njoku.

EternalHoH -> RE: The banks strike again. (7/9/2011 2:54:40 AM)

What is equally damning is the aggressive property seizure laws.   And that's not on the bank.   Its on a government who caters to the banking and private prison industry.
