If you discovered that your partner was infertile would you leave him/her?

I'm way beyond childbearing age, so I put myself back a few decades to before I had my daughter. Had I had a partner whom I loved & with whom I had a good relationship other than the fertility issue, I wouldn't leave him because of it. There are a whole lot of other options in this era we're living in. And besides, reproduction isn't the be-all to end-all for me. It never was, even back then when I wanted a child.

Seems like kind of a frivolous reason to leave someone with whom one is otherwise compatible. For me there haven't been all that many compatible people in my world, so I'd have to hang onto him.

Definitely not. I have UMs and love them to bits, but I have friends who aren't able to have littlies of their own who maintain an enviably close and secure relationship and other friends who've had fertility issues which they've overcome to go on to have families of their own.

It's only an insurmountable problem if the people in the relationship think it is. But then that applies to hair colour, weight, finances, etcetcetc.

nope. i do have a son, and while i love him to bits as he's here i wouldn't have been bothered to not have had kids. i never wanted children anyway and was told i couldn't have them, so the boy came as a bit of a shock. he was a now or never option at the time and while my ex wanted more children (he's from a huge family and already had a son) he didn't mind when he thought we couldn't. he respected my choice of definately no more, and he was fine when i was told 'there won't be anymore, we have no idea how you managed to have the one you've got'.

there's more to life than bringing others into it, but i do feel for those who are deperate to have kids and can't. i don't see it as a reason to leave someone though, there are other means of having children available.

No.

Why not?

Cause my ex is infertile as a result from cancer treatment which took place way before I met him and I was fine with that fact as I would not have mind adoption alternatively (as he claimed for a while he would want to adopt kids one day, though these days its apparent he never want that either).

So I would not leave him for infertility....however I would leave him if he would not want kids at all (meaning not via alternative ways either)...that's a difference

As others have said, no I wouldn't leave him, because A. I have had too few compatible people in my life to throw away someone who, because of circumstances beyond his control, is infertile. and B. There are other options in this day and age for bringing children into your lives.
I would, however, leave him if he didn't want children at all, under any circumstances, as I did, and still do, want more children.

If I was that set on having a child (which I'm not) I'd be happy to adopt, it wouldn't make a significant difference to me.

No, thats what sperm and egg donors are for... also surrogates.. there are other ways, not necessarily inexpensive but for me, that wouldnt stop me. Its really the love between two people that matters most, imo..

Personally no.   But then I am 47, and do not want any kids....   Even when I was young- I did not want kids.

No. I don't care about kids one way or another. Fine, if she wants them; also fine if she doesn't. I've got vast numbers of nieces and nephews - I get my 'kid fix' when I need it.

It is a moot point for me. My kids are grown and have kids of their own now.

However......I never planned on having children and would likely have never made it a priority to do so. Most children annoy the fuck out of me.

Same here.  There are only 6 children on this planet I like.  4 of them belong to me and the other two belong to my brother.

They all just happened.  I never planned on having any and would probably have never made plans to have one.

Infertility would never have crossed my mind as a reason to leave someone I loved.

I already have one, don't want another. At this point in my life, him being infertile would be a bonus.

It'd save me the cost of getting sterilized.

Since I hate children, finding out my partner is infertile would be all kinds of awesome.

I'm not a breeder. I have no issue with already existing children, and am having fun being an auntie & godmother.

Nope, not a deal breaker for me. There has never been a time when I wanted kids.
