Very sad for the family especially the son who witnessed this whole thing.  I wish the news channels would STOP replaying the video of the fall out of respect for the family but that would be too humane and not receive high ratings

Oh fuck that's funny. Quality stupidity. Guaranteed Darwin Award winner, although of course he's already passed on his genes.

Now other fans will doubtless have their views ruined as stadia rush to install larger, moron-proof barriers. That's the real shame here.

And I think we have a nominee here for a Carnegie Award.

Would that be anything like your respect for the family by posting this thread?

Of course you don't.

Let me try and help.

While decrying the television networks reporting the story you are doing the same thing by bringing it to the forums under the guise of denouncing their coverage of it.

She didn't decry reporting the story. She objected to the replaying of the video.

And, appropriately, didn't post a link to it.

I don't see a video of the fall in the link VP posted, so it's not the same thing as broadcasting the video that shows the man's fall.  So it's not the same thing.  IF the link actually had the video on it, i would agree with rule as being the same thing.

The fall is news and the subsequent death is also as is any news story of tragedy that is posted in newspapers, online, or talked about on tv but the video being broadcasted over and over to me is not respectful to the family.  On television if you are watching the show airing said video, you really don't have an option but to watch it, at least online in articles, you usually have the choice to press play.

But VP link, unless i am missing it, doesn't show a video at all.   So its not the same thing.

There is no video of the fall at the link she posted, or even a link to one. RML probably never even bothered to look. Of course, I could be wrong about him not even bothering to look. But given the implications that would follow from that, I'll opt for being generous.

No, please don't try and "help" anymore.  Your only making a bigger ass out of yourself.  She didn't post a link to the video nor was there even a link to the video in the article she posted.

There is really no reason to keep showing the video over and over.  The family feels bad enough already and we do not need to see it.

The player who threw the ball (Josh Hamilton) feels sick over this.  Do we really need to keep playing the video and rubbing into him as well?

Thank you, Kirata, Angel & FLCouple.  I went backed & looked at the link again afraid that there was something leading to the video and was glad to see it was just the article.

I am amazed at the irony that this is the 2nd firefighter to fall at that stadium in about a year. It is certainly tragic & my heart goes out to his son for having to witness such a thing. I don't think that you did anything wrong by posting this article, Miss Potty. The video would be something that I would be very upset to see. Kind of like those videos that were replayed again & again of people jumping out of the Twin Towers windows. WTF is the point of that anyway?????

And btw, one certainly does have a choice to change the channels, not as one poster here said, that if one is watching a show on tv & they air the video, one has no choice but to watch it. Good grief, I haven't owned a tv in years, but I'm fairly certain they still come with buttons which change the channels & there's always that one button that just shuts the fucker off!! I guess some people aren't capable of operating advanced electronic devices.

gah that's so sad =( i feel terrible for his family and the people who witnessed or tried to help. yikes...

when my M died, the news stations around here CONSTANTLY replayed footage of him on a stretcher; it drove me nuts. i left the TV off for i dunno how long. they even tacked the footage into an interview with one of his relatives after i had personally written a reporter at the station and asked them not to (she had given me her contact info; they always think you want to talk to them and try to spin a tragedy into something "meaningful" -- pfft). she said she would "make sure the footage wasn't used," and poof -- there it was!
the media will do whatever they want to get ratings and views; they really don't care about the people left behind who are affected by that.
