-FR- Actually I think I remember reading somewhere that fat people and smokers cost the health care system less because they die so much sooner. But yeah there's definitely a correlation between fried twinkie states and Republicans.

The link to the study is no longer there. I put forth US figures, not a Dutch study. If you could find the actual story, that the blog you linked to references, I would be interested to read it.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/05/health/05iht-obese.1.9748884.html?_r=2 The researchers found that from age 20 to 56, obese people racked up the most expensive health costs. But because both the smokers and the obese people died sooner than the healthy group, it cost less to treat them in the long run.

FR Asinine OP, not a surprise given the author. Red and Blue states are generally still very homogenous in their population, with only small differences in percentages of Democrats vs Republicans. Classifying Republicans as obese because 48% in an "obese state" happen to vote Republican and 46% happen to vote Democrat is ridiculous.
