Actually I think I remember reading somewhere that fat people and smokers cost the health care system less because they die so much sooner.

But yeah there's definitely a correlation between fried twinkie states and Republicans.

But, that may not necessarily mean that more Republicans are obese. The higher numbers in the red states could be a result of Democrats living in Republican-controlled states becoming depressed and self-destructive and abandoning healthful practices in a failure of hope.

I put forth US figures, not a Dutch study.

If you could find the actual story, that the blog you linked to references, I would be interested to read it.

The researchers found that from age 20 to 56, obese people racked up the most expensive health costs. But because both the smokers and the obese people died sooner than the healthy group, it cost less to treat them in the long run.

lol,  I have a good friend who has lived in the States since the mid 70's.  As he would still be quick to point out to you he is not just English he is from London. 

He has nicely pointed out to me before that the further north you go of London the more useless the people become.

yeah it's pretty much darwinism, the only problem is when children are raised to be fat...it's unfair to give them a lifetime of health problems or to expect a 5 year old to eat responsibly when his mother won't feed him responsibly.

Asinine OP, not a surprise given the author. Red and Blue states are generally still very homogenous in their population, with only small differences in percentages of Democrats vs Republicans. Classifying Republicans as obese because 48% in an "obese state" happen to vote Republican and 46% happen to vote Democrat is ridiculous.
