You have to watch the actual video on the story from the Detroit station.

They are interviewing people and none of them can understand what the problem is.  Then there is this one person in the neighborhood who doesn't show their face on camera complaining about the garden.

You just know that is who called code enforcement.

I saw that earlier today ... it fair boggled me I must say.

You'd think, given the record amount of obesity in America, as well as those with poor quality, junk food-filled, virtually vegetable-free diets, with all the attendant health risks that brings, that they'd be encouraging people to grow veggies anywhere they can?

If I was her I'd put grass down ...

... then plonk a cow on it for beef.

::chuckles:: I like it, but I think I'd go the route of trying to talk the rest of my neighbors into planting edible gardens as well.. then call code enforcement on the neighbor with the grass!

Wouldn't that be a great message to send to that asshat and his honey? That idiot should know better than to bother people with trivial shit..especially the kind that steps on a persons rights.

It's a sad turnip for the books and no mistake.

He's trying to squash her rights, even though she clearly knows her onions.

I don't want to be corny, but she's bean badly treated.

I dig what you're saying.. The guy and gal complaining are plain dirt. Let's hope this whole mess will wither and die on the vine and what shall sprout forth from it will be a new growth of understanding of what freedom truly is.

Agreed. She should ignore the manure the other guy's talking and plough on with her plans.

He's clearly just an old sow & sow.

I guess I'm going to be in the minority here (not that this surprises or bothers me) and suggest that everyone within the city limits where this lady lives be allowed to pick one law or ordinance that they wish to ignore and let them do so with impunity.

I'll be honest I can understand the complaints about the yard.

At my old home in the suburbs that I just moved from, I had a neighbor who had torn up her entire front yard that was nice, green and manicured like the rest of us in the neighborhood and replaced it with a xeric garden...a drought tolerant and less watering type of landscape..basically weeds, bushes and plants of all types throughout.

It was completely ugly and an eyesore and did not fit in with the rest of the neighborhood.

So when I see this woman's front yard with the way it is I would have to say the same thing as about my former neighbor's. It doesn't fit in no matter how useful or pretty you think it is.

Her front yard would be nice as her backyard but as a front yard I think it's just garish and tacky.

I read about this story this morning. I dont know what it is about the govt in the US but they just seem to want to squish the spirit outta people.

I come from the land of live and let live. I have seen people before that had lush beautiful veggie front yards and I envied them! Made me wanna put shoe polish on my face and raid it in the middle of the night!

It shouldn't have to.. We aren't robots on a production line. She payed for her yard and she can do pretty much whatever the fuck she wants to do with it in my opinion.. Not like she's sacrificing cats on her front stoop. We're talking about very useful plant-life here.

Maybe there's better sun in her front yard.

Kinda what I think about your homogenized thought process with these comments.

One day people like that will reap what they sow for sure.. Let us plant the seed of hope so that tyranny will have no root. (Heavy on the dairy side with that one)

I kinda agree with the neo Icarys dude

I saw a prog in uk about people builing own homes

some very very modern,

there was one guy was told buy the town planners he had to do this that the other to have his house fit in

hes spending millions on this house being green , enviro friendly and in a time where people saying we have to be enviro friendly his house has to fit in with those built 20-30 yrs ago that are not enviro friendly

its crazy and whacked

Aside from the fact that there shouldn't even be an ordinance about what can be grown in your own front yard, whoever wrote it didn't do a good job. Suitable is a very vague term, and what one person thinks is suitable is likely to be different from the next persons. And to top it off, the city planner doesn't even know the definition of the word. For some reason he thinks that suitable means common, and so everyone should have the same type of front lawn.
I hope the judge laughs in the city's face when they drag this into court.

You'd think, given the record amount of obesity in America...

Well yanno, our government likes to "help" us...
Scientific American summed up the disturbing state of the evidence in April 2010. The magazine cited a meta-analysis—that is, a combination of data from several large studies—of the dietary habits of 350,000 people worldwide, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, which found no association between the consumption of saturated fats and heart disease.

Another recent study noted by Scientific American, by Harvard nutrition and epidemiology professor Meir Stampfer and associates and published in The New England Journal of Medicine, tracked 322 moderately obese people, each following one of three diets: a low-fat, calorie-restricted diet of the sort that the American Heart Association recommends; a so-called Mediterranean diet, rich in vegetables and low in red meat; and a low-carbohydrate diet without any calorie restrictions. Not only did the low-carb dieters lose the most weight, the study found; they also had the healthiest ratio of HDL (so-called good) cholesterol to LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Looking at such evidence, several top medical scientists have concluded that the government’s carb-heavy guidelines may actually have harmed public health... Americans have largely followed the government’s advice... Yet over the same three decades, the fraction of American men who were overweight or obese increased from 53 percent of the population to about 69 percent.

Her community should be inspired by her, not giving her crap. On the other hand there is a such thing as CCRs when you buy a house, and if you do not like the CCRs of your neighborhood, you can buy in a place that does not have them.

I can't stand the idea of living somewhere with strict CCRs...
