tiggerspoohbear -> RE: Should school teach cursive writing? (7/11/2011 4:37:24 PM)

I went to grade school when being taught cursive in grade 2 or 3 was a step up from printing. And it considered great by most of the students. But back then, they also didn't diagnose dyslexia or any other form of learning disability. It may become a lost art, but I still write cursive, it's a habit. Harder to do now that carpal tunnel syndrome has come back, but so has printing. Holding a a writing implement is an effort. Why I love to write with either a gel pen or a fountain pen. Yes, a fountain pen. Mine's not an expensive one, the ink cartridges are still available, and I think it looks lovely. Schools all over industrialized nations keep making cuts to their educational systems, and yes, parents can teach, but we're losing something here. How will they get employment when they graduate if they don't have the basics down? I know that my sister, a kindergarten teacher, has told me that they no longer teach "proper" spelling, as in accurate, but phonetic as the other isn't important anymore. This is just too much. I don't know how many bosses I worked for where I wasn't the one they came to so that the letter or document was sent out with correct spelling and grammar?
