there's a bellydance troupe called UNMATA (who have a great ponygirl choreography =p) who have several members who don't shave their pits. in the beginning they took  A LOT of flack for that. people would get up and walk out of their performances, just because of a little bit of underarm hair. now that they're hugely famous in the fusion world, nobody cares anymore. but in the beginning, they had a lot of problems over such a small thing.



That is amazing to me!!! I had a bartending job back in the mid-70's & my boss told me to shave my pits. I told him I would do that when he shaved his. Needless to say there was never another word spoken about that.

Gawd, even the men shave their pits now though. My favorite morning radio dj's were all ganging up on one dude who did not shave his pits, talking about how gross his underarm hair looked when they played ball or some such. I was floored to learn that every dam one of them actually shaved their pits!

Men is sposed to be fuzzy dammit!

Status: offline 		I swear if I don't shave from toes to nose, I'ma gonna end up lookin like a sasquatch.  I tried to wax my lower arms once, o it worked alright, now I have to shave the damn things because it grows in every direction possible.  I hate the look of it.  Legs, well those I could braid.  Nether regions, I just found myself a trimmer and damned if it doesn't work.  Funny, the older I get the weirder the places I get hair.  THAT gets plucked or I use depilatory cream on it if possible.  I think I've said enough.  

ETA:  At least, til now, it's stayed out of my ears and nose!

I have gone bald, shaped, landing-strip and have, for brief periods when I had other stuff going on and I just didn't give half a crap, I left ol' girl alone. But yeah, I prefer my landing strip what I have now, and that's probably the way it'll stay so long as they keep making Fusion razors (although I've found a brand of disposable that has SIX -6- blades, and let me tell yaz about some SMOOVE-ness, now..). And yes, I shave my legs and my pits, or else I feel like a Yeti even if I don't look like one..

Technically, women are supposed to be fuzzy, too. I hate that I have to shave my legs, etc., in order to be considered attractive in this society. I do it. I don't hate it enough to actually take a stand against it. I'm a product of my environment just like everybody else and I think shaved legs, etc., on a woman is simply more attractive than unshaven. But really....if we have "evolved" to the point of making it expected that women will shave, what's so different about expecting a man to? It's equally unnatural, in my opinion.

women are just as mammalian as men; women have body hair. i dunno why people are so afraid of it. =p
remove it for your own personal preferences, sure, but this idea that men are "supposed" to be hairy and men aren't -- i just don't get that at all. =p

This makes me miss the date who was disappointed I would mess with the bush at all.   If only he was a romantic gentleman...    Happy thoughts.   M

ETA: When I was hitting puberty, my father didn't want me to shave. So I never really got hooked on the idea of it. I did shave because my big sister did, but I didn't really think it was that cool. And I had hair on my belly & one day when I was at the beach in my two-piece--no bikinis back then except on the French Riviera--a boy made fun of that. So my reaction was to go to a different beach where I knew I could be all alone.
