I would say that when kids are involved, don't wear the collar.

Huh?  My nephews LOVED playing with my o-ring when I held them.

I love ya girl....but...

These aren't our children, not even related to us.

The children's reaction to the collar doesn't matter.

The parents reaction is what matters and depending on where you live.....I can bet that parents would flip out if they found out that their children's bus driver was into BDSM and wore a collar to work. Doesn't matter if that driver was the model of propriety, it's their perceptions that would win.

In LA people probably wouldn't even look twice. In rural midwest, you'd probably be burned at the stake.

the childrens (or their parents view) of the collar really don't matter, depending on the style of collar worn.... be it in LA or here in Springfield, IL (dead ass center of midwest).... if you'd look at My girls profile.. candleTC.. you'd see a Turian styled Gorean collar... locked around her neck by Me, only removable by Me, and is worn by her 24/7. She wears it to work, family functions, and grocery shopping.... most people haven't a clue that its even a collar to begin with, it just appears to be some sort of contemporary necklace that goes great with a pair of jeans or an office suit. I wouldn't recommend firing up the bluebird and picking up the kids wearing something your master picked up at Petsmart, and as I've stated before.... a collar comes from within, anything around your throat is just ornament.

The wearing of collars is symbolic, but there are other items that can be worn if a collar is not appropriate. Necklace, bracelet, or even a choker. It doesn't have to be huge and gaudy to be a collar, just symbolic.

Indeed...My girls wear a simple silver chain link necklace; with a tiny plated padlock in place of the locket & clasp, thus locking it on them. This is very passable in vanilla/public; yet it is recognized within the lifestyle, and it often draws nice comments from both groups.

Or you could follow the new trend set by aa young "mistress" that just colared a girl on-line with an "imaginary" collar. her word, not Mine. I foolishly mentioned the Gaypride collar that, I won as a joke gift at the SCDs munch last year. It also has small lights, a 9v battery holder and a velcro closure, and No, I'm not Gay, but the friend that presented it or bought it or whatever is. lol

I was given a thin leather collar that fits snug against my neck.  it has a small place for a lock on the front.  Most vanilla people thing its a choker.  I wouldnt lye if they asked what it was, though.

first of all ask your master what he wants. masters come first.
second there are collars that look really nice n vanilla
third, since my slave lives with her parents i have decided to have her wear a piece of jewelery that symbolizes my ownership. it can be a necklace, ring or even a piece of clothing. in the case of my slave its a simple black cloth band that can be tied arond the neck.
