Note - I am hearing on the radio that so far they are only reporting 1 death, the truckdriver. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dr-gridlock/post/amtrak-train-truck-crash/2011/07/11/gIQA7dC38H_blog.html Washington Post Local An Amtrak train has collided with a dump truck in Maine, and both caught fire, according to an Associated Press report. A statement from Amtrak reported that the truck driver has died, but there were no reports of “any serious or life-threatening injuries to the estimated 109 passengers.” However, the Associated Press quoted an official from the Maine Department of Public Safety as saying some of the passengers were injured, but the number and the severity of their injuries were unclear. The crash occurred in North Berwick about 11 a.m. Monday. “It looked like somebody dropped a bomb,” witness Tom Gorski told the wire service. “The flames were shooting higher than a three-story house. It brings tears to your eyes.” The train was part of Amtrak’s Downeaster service, which connects Portland, Maine, to Boston. North Berwick is about 40 miles south of Portland. Amtrak warned that passengers on the Downeaster line could expect delays throughout the day. Last month a tractor-trailer struck an Amtrak train near Reno, Nev. Six people died in that accident. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating that accident.
