Ok, look... I replied to the wrong thread.
Well, it's still an important point, so I'll leave it here anyway. Don't bother replying to me here though. Take it back to the other thread..
1) Safety test (fig. 11). With the pistol unloaded, cock the hammer and press the safety upward into the safe (locked) position. Grasp the grip so the grip safety is depressed and squeeze the trigger tightly three or four times. If the hammer falls. the safety must be replaced.
That's from the depot armorer's manual for a 1911A1. Shit breaks. Never risk someone else's or your life that a safety ain't broken.
