I agree, they are born that way and I'm still really angry that the girl was docked while it was still legal (well she's going on to 7 years now) but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much prosecution for people doing that, I tend to run into a lot of dogs with docked tails and the animals are quite young and they talk about taking the ferry in Liverpool. In my opinion a person who wants a dog without a tail for "esthetic" reasons doesn't deserve a dog, I can understand it to a degree in working spaniels as the bushy tail would get stuck or you could never get all the burrs out, but they don't dock the whole tail and dogs still have enough for balance.

I tend to have a hard time being polite if people point out that dogs of a certain breed should not have tails as they "don't look right", how can you claim to love a dog but put it through a procedure that causes them pain and impacts their movement and has really bad results when they get older? This whole "look" thing is ridiculous, a few months ago I picked up a brother for Kia, another rescue, some cunts got a pedigree dog who developed lion jaw (super rare condition in Dobies but once they hit "puberty" they grow into their jaw, usually only terriers get it), so the fucking bastards kept him in the garage, after paying a few K they wanted a "pretty" dog that's a status symbol, not a dog who looked a bit odd, RSPCA rescued him, he went through a bunch of homes but was too high maintenance for most (young and energetic male), last home gave him away as he is apparently aggressive and they are worried about the kids... A few months down the line, that dog is so NOT aggressive, he just needs lots of walking and training as he was under exercised, mentally and physically. In terms of aggression, he was recently almost killed by a really vicious Jack Russel who tried to gut him, bit both dogs and me before I managed to kick the little fucker into the canal and whack my big leather handbag a bit around the fucktard owner.... A couple of K later (of course he had to be bitten and required emergency surgery before the insurance was through) and a professional dog trainer as both dogs had serious problems with strange dogs and weren't socializing anymore but highly defensive (nothing you want with big dogs, even if they snap in defense it will be the big dog and not the untrained fucking yapper), the verdict is that both dogs are placid as hell, very obedient and we're now working with a friendly stunt dog to socialize them again after the attack. £75 an hour but worth every penny. And in case I ever run into the toothless scum who owns the Jack Russell again, I swear, it was self defense...

When I got Sophie my little minpin papillion mix the woman asked me if I was going to have her ears and tail 'done' because she could recommend a vet that does a good job. I was not nice.

I don't mind getting whacked in the face one in awhile by that tail and I ADORE her great big ears! It's all part of what makes Sophie......Sophie!

It's essential in working spaniels that are shot over, and a few other working breeds too; the tails always snag and either tear flesh or dislocate the base joint, in bracken and suchlike.

There have been several prosecutions for out of area dockings. Admittedly, in "less enlightened" areas, various idiot locals will tend to do their own thing, but if the local police take an interest it'll end up costing them.

Good grief since when does bringing a story like this one equate hand wringing? You know RF you used to be a lot of fun, what happened?

Due to work I'm in London fairly often lately and I wouldn't consider Regent Park one of the "less enlightened" areas, I usually have girlie with me as she is a mommy girl and doesn't mind waiting in the house (courtesy of a friend who spends most of his time in LA - unfortunately a nice house with a garden there is a bit out of my league) on our morning walks (sadly have to be done with her being on a leash due to regulations) I see a lot of docked tails, sometimes even cropped ears. The sad thing is that the local police doesn't seem to take much of an interest, and oddly enough the dogs being walked there tend to be walked by dog walkers instead of owners. Now yes, I could possibly complain to the police, I just doubt they'd be interested in prosecuting for docked tails and cropped ears in that particular area, and I'd be a bit worried about a piece of poisoned meat being thrown across the fence if I'd make trouble for the wife or gf of some oligarch... I might be wrong there but I just don't want to risk it...

It's always impressed me that, no matter what counter I put to you, you've always recently experienced exactly the opposite.

That's an amazing talent, and one I reckon you could make money out of :)

I can understand the not being nice...

Mind you, I have jokingly commented that I do understand why they dock Doberman tails after being whipped (and I mean seriously whipped) by Alfie being delighted to see me, still, would not ever inflict that... All my previous dobies had tails, seeing Kia without a tail actually looked wrong to me as it has been outlawed in Germany and Austria for so long and last time we had her with us, we were stopped twice by the police and had to explain that she is a rescue, we didn't do it, wouldn't ever do it, here are her papers and her pet passport, see for yourself. She wouldn't even be allowed to be shown due to the tail docking. I love her dearly and wouldn't change her for the world, but it would be so nice if she could have a tail she could wag... She's been bitten too often as other dogs snapped as she only has this pathetic stump of a tail and they can't tell that she's friendly... Fucking bollocks to "breeding standards" and looks.

No, where it equals "makes people laugh" "funny" "amusing" all of which used to describe your posts. If it were just here it would be one thing, but you've been making them in other threads.

To be fair, you're right there; I've been adopting a "disagree with drivel" policy across the board, so I can't gainsay you on that one.

ETA: Why do you bump up the size of your reply text?

So what gives? The change is dramatic - mind you I was away for about a year so maybe it isn't really.

When did the blithe acceptance of drivelling idiocy become a good thing? Did I miss a vote?

I wasn't aware that you regularly go dog walking in Regent's Park, try around 7 am

As for making money, thanks, got a job, it's amazing what education and a good track record can do even in a depression, I highly recommend it.

For noticing the docked tails and cropped ears, if you spent a fair bit of your time in societies where it has been outlawed for a long time, it just strikes you much more, because to me it does tend to look odd.

My experiences, I tend to think I'm living pretty much in the real life and notice things, I'm sure you think the same way about your experiences. I just don't see the need to poke fun at somebody who's upset about cruelty that happens to animals, I don't think it's particularly funny, nor do I think starving kids are particularly funny. I'm trying to do my bit to do what I can, as long as you can say the same, it's all good. If you noticed that the local police is very keen on persecution people who go abroad for tail dockings, good for those guys, I just simply wonder where the young dogs with docked tails come from, as UK vets usually refuse to perform such surgeries unless they are working dogs, though I would understand if cops have more pressing matters to attend to. Maybe I'm just wallowing in the really scummy parts of London and failed to notice it.

Ok, there's my "truly weird moment of the week"; lectured on my SoH by a German :)

It is something I have been wondering about too... RF had an extended bout with an illness (that was mentioned frequently in the I Admit thread...) and after coming back from that has never quite seemed the same to me.
His humor went from witty to caustic and I miss version 1.0 .

Geez, it's a human interst story like on the news. I'm not saying I'm interested but at least I'm not bitching about it. Beside, the last thread that got into depth about human abuse got pulled because people couldn't get along. That leaves democrats, republicans and jello. I prefer jello, although I never touch the stuff.

That's doubtful, I like my font just fine thanks. Look RF I'm not going to fight with you no matter how fascinated you are with my choice of font size.
