Art is...
A way of expressing your own feelings about whatever subject you work with, in whatever medium you work in. Sculpture, painting, writing, music, dancing, acting, cooking... these are only a FEW examples of possible ways that art can be expressed. The value of a work of art lies in whether other people, observing it and/or interacting with it can comprehend it, at least in part. A good artist changes the people who observe his or her work, preferably for the better. Good art does not need to be explained, it simply IS, on its own, entire.
I consider myself several sorts of artist. I write, I cook, I dance. I am envious of people who can, with a few strokes of pen or pencil create an image that seems ready to step off the page, or those who can take a tube with holes drilled in it or a collection of strings stretched between pegs and make beautiful and evocative sounds with them.
