If you want to cut education spending, but not military spending ask yourself this; "how many terrorists do I see a day compared to how many fucking idiots do I see a day"?

Pick me!!!!! I have finally decided what I want to be when I grow up!!!!!

kat321 -> RE: If you want to cut education spending, but not military spending ask yourself this... (7/15/2011 1:53:03 PM)

Growing up is highly overrated.  I may be getting older, but I refuse to grow up.

The US Military is a Federal prerogative. The National Guard is a State prerogative.

Public schooling is SUPPOSED to be a State prerogative. The Feds have no business in it.

Money is not the problem with the education system.

WebWanderer -> RE: If you want to cut education spending, but not military spending ask yourself this... (7/15/2011 6:17:52 PM)

No no no! You've got it all wrong. If you don't see any terrorists every day, that's because the military is doing its job - which means it needs even more money to keep you safe. And if you *do* see terrorists, that means the military didn't have enough money to fight those up-to-no-good evildoers - which means it needs even more money to keep you safe. See, it all makes sense. Just keep giving the Pentagon more money and all will be well...

No, Sesame Street is.

I really do not want to hijack this already insane thread with what I think are the problems with the current education system.

They're called "Administration"... Seriously. Every school needs (a) teachers who um... teach. (b) ONE PRINCIPAL and (c) a janitor. If there are a lot of kids, maybe 2 janitors...

EVERYONE ELSE is wasted money.

At the school district level, you need a school board of elected citizens and ONE superintendent.

Ok, I will instead, the current problems with education may be summed up with two words, SHITTY PARENTING.  If more parents got off their asses and stressed the importance of actually learning to their kids there would be fewer issues with education.
Instead, parents show worship for an Allen Iverson over a Carl Sagan, or any other professional athlete over a Neil deGgrasse Tyson.  We wonder why our kids value style over substance, well there is the first place to fucking look, the mirror.

So you would agree that the Department of Education does NOT need a SWAT team then?

That would of course be the first thing that I would cut. Then probably the entire Dept of Ed.

I would change that to "Off their cell phones and paid attention to their kids." The stories I could tell about what I see when I am out with Butterhead would curl your hair. It is un-fucking-believable. Why would these kids listen to a stranger when they won't listen to their parents?

Precisely. Washington DC is a prime example of that.

the idiots. definitely. mostly because our military interference destabilizing other nations creates the breeding ground for terrorists. our idiots just harm our own country. our military inspires foreigners to hate us.
