Old Man
Timothy B. Chiacchira

Daylight slips through the cracks of my heart,
Soft melodic it passes gently, the aching, the longing of yesterday.
Day’s silkng forward, a transition, a well made sigh, the kiss at my birth.
A smile of children’s memories wanting more, breathing for tomorrow.

Each struggle, the pain of a lost love, tears of being alone.
The fast heartbeat of a busy signal, all the crumpled numbers lost…
Last call on the dance floor, I shake the cigarette dust into history.
Walking home alone, who did I refuse a smile?

Here now feeling the forlorn flesh of nightly abuses,
The stubble caressing sandpapered hands in a darkened room.
Fading light, no Poe, Shakespeare, Rimbaud…just memories..
Of this Old man…
