DavidLee44UK -> are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 1:08:31 AM)

a friend mine a couple months ago posted a video on facebook

by a well known movie critic saying 3d movies are dying as people aren't going to see them

i remember seeing avatar and being blown away by scene where tree of life falls down looked like falling in cinema

then he went onto say new transformers movie in 3d would be savour of 3d films

yet again lots went to 2d version while not many went to see 3d version

going to the cinema is an experience but if i forget no biggy just wait til blu ray comes out

I think we're on 3d overload and people just want a break from it.

It will make its rounds again when another big hit action movie comes out.

I wouldn't say 3D was dead, but I do think it's in its infancy.

I went to see my first 3D movie (Pirates of the Carribean) a few months ago. It was a lot more expensive than the 2D version, but it was a special birthday treat. We couldn't get seats in the middle of the cinema, so we had to sit near the front.

While I enjoyed the film, I found I had a headache from sitting with my head tilted right back for the entire film, and to be honest they didn't make enough cool stuff in the movie to make 3D more enticing than 2D.

I will be going to see another 3D movie in a few weeks - Kung Foo Panda 2 - because I saw the trailer before the Pirates movies and it actually looked like it was worth the extra money.

that's part problem little

some films are shot in 2d and 3d added

not shot in 3d and while movies shot in 3d work 2d films with added 3d don't

clash of the titans 3d was rubbish

DarkSteven -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 3:05:44 AM)

It's not at all dead but in its infancy.

The moviemakers are trying to add some wrinkles.  The theater owners are pissed off - backfitting a theater for 3D is NOT cheap.

Not many consumers are willing to spend the money for a new 3D TV, just after they spent for high def ones.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 3:49:29 AM)

i think a lot of it is simple economics. most people can't really afford the 3D TVs, and going to a theatre has gotten more and more expensive -- people aren't going to watch EVERY movie in 3D, only ones they're really super-interested in. so it's kind of a bad time to try to roll out something new and expensive, and then judge whether or not it's here to stay -- if the economy ever picks back up, 3D will probably leap forward. there's a new phone out now that lets you shoot your own 3D movies; no clue how it works, but 3D is  something people are interested in, they just generally can't afford it.

i saw Coraline in 3D and thought it was ridiculously cool, but there's no way i'm going to pay extra every time i go to the movies. the rare time i DO go, i mostly go to afternoon matinees anyway. =p haha

and filmmakers need to learn to make 3D more subtle -- having people point at the screen constantly, or throw objects towards it every 5 seconds gets really tiring and is so predictable. =p

lily apparently the best 3d effect in transformers was a transformer

falling and was same effect as in Avatar

looking forward to Avatar 2 but that's only one in 3d looking forward to

just hope hobbits not in 3d

GreedyTop -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 5:31:11 AM)

did I imagine it, or did they do a 3d release of one of the Star Wars movies? That would be cool.....

DavidLee44UK -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 6:23:22 AM)

gonna do 1 a year i think in order

GreedyTop -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 6:26:40 AM)

oooh.... excellent!!!

I'd love to see Blade Runner in 3D too...

DavidLee44UK -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 7:04:51 AM)

blade runner directors cut my fav film

GreedyTop -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 7:19:27 AM)

I dont think I've seen the directors cut..

I REALLY gotta add that to my DVD collection...

I think Song Remains the Same (Led Zeppelin, live) would kick ass in 3D also, also the Wall (Pink Floyd)

DavidLee44UK -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 7:54:51 AM)

the directors cut has a slightly different ending

it ends on that decker (harrison ford is a replicant ) as you see an origami bird

GreedyTop -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 7:57:58 AM)

GAH!! GIVE A SPOILER ALERT, dammit!! LOL

MasterG2kTR -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 8:30:06 AM)

3D as we know it today is a total fucking joke!!  Until we have holographic projection (think Star Trek Holodeck) there will never be any 3D worth a damn.

By now the six disc Final Cut of Blade Runner can be had for relatively cheap. That's a keeper there.

This is the third time 3D has come around. It explodes and then fades, each time.

GreedyTop -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 8:38:18 AM)

yeah, thanks, Laz..

my DVD spending is down to nil ATM, and when I DO have the funds (whether or not I have the funds *sigh*) I usually buy seasons of shows..

I finally completed my collection of West Wing (YAY!!)

still working on M*A*SH*.

others in the works as well.. I like doing marathon season viewing...

off to nap..

(early is good.. no beer, low on smokes, and I think I am feeling the redux of my 4am droops...)

*hugs*

lazarus1983 -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 8:46:55 AM)

I've been wanting to collect some shows lately. Homicide, LEXX, The Shield...

pahunkboy -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 8:47:06 AM)

If you mean 3d where one wears glasses.   GET DONE WITH IT!     A dumb fad- good riddance.  (to the trend- not any poster here)

erieangel -> RE: are 3d movies dead (7/17/2011 8:56:10 AM)

The problem with 3D is it is bad on the eyes. Every time I see a 3D movie I leave the theater with a head ache. Really takes away from the enjoyment of the movie.
