TheHeretic -> Obama and that story about his mom's health insurance (7/17/2011 9:47:06 AM)

No, really, it's all ok. The president just recollected the facts wrong, that's all.

Obama's health care story under challenge

quote:

A new biography tells the story of Barack Obama's mother -- and undercuts a health care story long told by the president.

During his 2008 campaign -- and the 2009-10 fight to enact the health care bill -- Obama often said his mother had to battle the cancer that killed her while worrying whether health insurance would cover her medical bills.

"I remember in the last month of her life, she wasn't thinking about how to get well, she wasn't thinking about coming to terms with her own mortality, she was thinking about whether or not insurance was going to cover the medical bills and whether our family would be bankrupt as a consequence," Obama said in 2007 of his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham.

But in her book A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama's Mother, author Janny Scott reports that insurers did pay for Stanley Ann Dunham's medical bills -- it was a disability claim that came under dispute.

Hey now, he promised 'Hope' and 'Change,' not the truth.

You know what? I really don't care.

We have to have universal health care. Even other industrial nation has figured this out long ago. Obamacare is flawed, absolutely. But, he finally got something through, something every president since Truman has tried in some fashion. It's a benchmark, and I'm glad.

Yes, there will be more steps from here in the future. But we're finally standing on the first step.

I know many of you disagree. But this is what history will remember--Obama got us started.

And yes, I understand that Republicans, if they survive their Tea Party/Christian extremists crises, will be bitching about it for a century.

You know what? I really don't care.

Universal health care is a fiction. Even other industrial nation has finally figured that out. Obamacare is a fucking disaster that does nothing, absolutelynolthing, to control health care costs. But, he finally got something through, something that will help make him a one term president . It's a pain in the neck and wast of money to repeal, and I'm sad about that.

Yes, there will be more steps from here in the future. But we're finally standing on the first step. Repeal and real reform will have a better chance after this major misstep.

I know many of you disagree. But this is what history will remember--Obama got us started down the wrong path, but it will be corrected.

And yes, I understand that Democrats, if they survive Obamas economy, will be bitching about its repeal for a century. At least theyll live longer to bitch about i then they would under Obamacare.

So your saying she wasn't worried about the hundreds of dollars a month the insurance didn't cover?

Nice spin.

You really do need to get around to changing your name, you've got the right letter but the wrong word.

I appreciate your honesty, Muse. I'm not so sure about your approved methodology of deliberately monkey-wrenching a flawed system on the unsubstantiated hope that something better will rise from the rubble, though. We are not starting from a place where, "anything would be better," and I think we are just as likely to wind up with something worse.

Musicmystery -> RE: Obama and that story about his mom's health insurance (7/17/2011 10:27:22 AM)

Thanks Rich. But I think we are/were starting from exactly such a place. Ask business owners about their health care costs. It's unsustainable.

We've now crossed the "can't go THERE" barrier. It's a necessary first step, wherever we go from here.

TheHeretic -> RE: Obama and that story about his mom's health insurance (7/17/2011 10:34:22 AM)

I know we have a big mess, Muse, and the solution may in fact be to nationalize the system, but doing that properly means having an honest conversation about the issue, and squarely addressing the negative aspects of such an approach. The President telling a lie like this is not indicative that he favors the honest approach.

I don't know, I may be reading it wrong but the facts in the article seem to dispute what the author is saying in his own article.

That conversation, though, Rich, has been going on for 60 years, and the counter-proposals to this were more talk, more study, more delay.

Single payer nationalization is where this will ultimately go. Apparently, we will have to do it slowly and painfully. But at least now we've taken a step, and despite their rhetoric, Republicans know they can't actually repeal it.

So first three years of theater, and then tweaking. It's a start, and having crossed finally that initial threshold, tweaking is now possible, vs. more delay.

Talk about picking your nose and eating it......

This is to be the replacement for your birther crap?

Go find where I ever endorsed any of that birther nonsense, or take your lies elsewhere, Squealer.

Moonhead -> RE: Obama and that story about his mom's health insurance (7/17/2011 10:55:00 AM)

Why is less acceptable for the Kenyan to sprout a load of crap about his mother's health insurance than it is for caribou Barbie to come out with a load of ridiculous horseshit about liberal death panels wanting to kill her electioneering mongoloid?

Sanity -> RE: Obama and that story about his mom's health insurance (7/17/2011 10:56:30 AM)

Unfortunately, an honest conversation with Dems is a lot to hope for, Rich.

For starters, whom would they talk to?

The current plan is largely the Republican plan from the 90s. Now, however, it's bad.

There's an honest conversation.

Owner59 -> RE: Obama and that story about his mom's health insurance (7/17/2011 10:57:45 AM)

Or the replacement for your Obama/new-new-black-panther-scary-black-men-connection-race-baithing bullshit......

If Obama was say,.... caught lying about leaking some CIA agent`s IDs to our enemies or lying us into invading another nation, killing hundreds of thousands of people......there MAY be something to talk about.

This bullshit tho, putting thoughts and feelings and motivations into his dead mom head?

Disgusting.

Great troll post.....troll.

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Obama and that story about his mom's health insurance (7/17/2011 10:58:59 AM)

It has huge entertainment value as the Dems rally to cover his obvious lies on one hand, while accusing Bush of lying without any basis to do so.

There's plenty of bull and plenty of basis all the way around.

Rallying in either direction is silly and obvious.

Sanity -> RE: Obama and that story about his mom's health insurance (7/17/2011 11:01:50 AM)

Right, watching them go hypertroll on page one of any conversation is the best one can hope for.

Thats from the very top to the very bottom, and with a very few exceptions.

Which is why I don't "rally". Every situation requires one to read, THINK and react. Too many here skip the middle part after wading through the muck of DK, HuffPo and MM.

Oops...the MM was not you! (Youre only stuck in the muck half the time).
