Saint Ronnie raised the debt ceiling 18 times and railed against the congress playing politics with raising the debt ceiling.

Read it here

But an icon of the Republican Party – former president Ronald Reagan – warned Congress during his presidency that a failure to raise the debt limit could also cause a financial catastrophe

In a November 1983 letter to then-Senate Majority Leader Howard H. Baker Jr. (R-Tenn.), Reagan warned that without a higher debt ceiling, the country could be forced to default for the first time in its history.

Reagan wrote: “The full consequences of a default – or even the serious prospect of default – by the United States are impossible to predict and awesome to contemplate. Denigration of the full faith and credit of the United States would have substantial effects on the domestic financial markets and the value of the dollar.”

ladyneedshelp -> RE: Ronald Reagan on Debt Ceiling (7/19/2011 8:05:42 PM)

The report goes on to say that then Sen. Obama voted no to raising the limit. What it did not say was Obama's comments.....that it was irresponsible to heap debt on our children and grandchildren, and it showed profound lack of leadership. (Gotta give him some credit! )

The reporter said Reagan said the same thing Obama and Timmy the tax cheat are saying......what it did not say is he said that to a democrat congress.......hummmmmm

The goverment has been spending like there is no tomorrow....BOTH democrats and republicans! Not just during one or two admin. In each and every presidency the spending has risen. During Reagan's term (w/dems congress)it went up just over 1/2 trillion, during during Clinton's term(w/rep.congress) it went up almost as much. During most of Bush's term (w/dems.congress) it was just a bit higher.......then it exploded at the end.....but all together it was a bit more...up 3/4 trillion.(till2008) then Obama w/dems congress doubled it again with another doubling by 2015...........According to economists....in past reports, when a country passes a GDP/spending ratio, job growth slows dramatically. We are approaching that ratio. No matter what they do we are about to experience inflation.....we are already experiencing increased prices.....add inflation to what's going on and we the people (not the rich in the govt.) are going to be hurting.....and the goverment, in this case the democrats, want to spend MORE!!! That's not going to help!! It will only make it worse.... There comes a time when the free money ends and the intrest on that free money swamps everything. Before anyone says Obama is offering cuts.......anyone seen them in writing? Is he talking one trillion over 10 years? A drop in the bucket? And when Reagan agreed to tax increases it was on the promises of cuts from the democrats....most of which never came......same thing happened to bush..... Should we believe them again?

WTF???

As a senator, Obama's vote for the debt ceiling didn't really matter, it got raised even with his "no" vote. He was able to stand on the his principals with that vote. He no longer has that privilege. Heaping more debt on our children and grand children is a bad thing; defaulting on our nation's debt is worse. As a senator, Obama knew that, he also knew the senate had the votes so he was given wiggle room to argue for the other side. It does not the fact that he has no wiggle room now. The debt ceiling must be raised; in fact there are arguments for eliminating the ceiling all together. If Washington could get their collective heads out of their collective arses, we wouldn't have to go through this bs every few years.

Oh good god...he was wrong when he said that.Despite your silly child assertion that government needs to live within it's means, the basic fact is government by it's very nature engages in activities which are a benefit and indeed a necessity to future generations. Those generations need to accept some obligation for these works/activities and programs. That generation will in turn have a government that will of necessity pass on debt to their heirs.
This is a basic fact of governing and it is readily understood by adults.

So u think saying one thing and doing another is ok! or. Do You think maybe he was just saying that to make the president look bad.....that he really did not mean it? And that makes it ok?

Do u think spending more ....much more ...is ok? ..(we are already borrowing 43 cents on every dollar we spend). Should we go deeper into debt? Is there a limit? When we reach 50 cents on the dollar!
?....75 cents? Maybe it would be ok to live on credit alone? If we tax the rich 100% it would not be enough to substain us after, awhile the government would spend all that then where would We be.....no money and no evil rich to create jobs.....? Sounds like a plan to bankrupccy......

It is getting increasingly evident that you are incapable of any substance or depth in your thinking.Tell me something is the world a warm fuzzier place when everything is so black and white/two dimensional .

Lenders quit lending when an borrower reaches a set ratio of income to debt.......when we reach that ceiling we should stop right? Or keep soaking the rich....... Ofcourse this ignores the fact that the poor end up paying in higher prices to cover those taxes....it does not matter so long as the evil rich pay dam it! That's the adult thing to do! I get it!

Please stop your silly hysterical whining about soaking the rich.Where the fuck do you get off with that silly shit....when have taxes been higher? Why and when did allowing a temporary tax break(which never did pay off in the manner Bush said it would)to expire translate to a tax INCREASE ?
In what fucking universe are the rich of America getting abused, financially or otherwise?
What reality do you actually exist in

Yeap, Grade B+ fearmongering at its (mostly) best. You have to work on your delivery there, ladyneedshelp. Its to wordy and bunched up for conservatives to understand it. And it has enough pseudo-facts for the liberals to pick it apart and make you look like an idiot for doing it. However, trying to blame things on the Democrats (most particularly on the President), does net you some points.

BTW, the President already came out with a plan that would have cut $4 Trillion over ten years off the budget, and the Republicans rejected it. Made all the newspapers about a week or so ago....where have you been?

I was thinking on planet Jupiter, underground, in a dark cave, with a blanket over her head. Padded room is much more cost effiecent. Dont have to waste all that rocket fuel on her....

ladyneedshelp -> RE: Ronald Reagan on Debt Ceiling (7/19/2011 9:07:34 PM)

Really? Fearmongering? LOL. If that makes u fear.....maybe there's more truth than u are willing to acknowledge...

Liberals can pick it apart? Really? Ok!

slvemike4u -> RE: Ronald Reagan on Debt Ceiling (7/19/2011 9:12:44 PM)

The word "you" is three fucking letters. Why must YOU,further illustrating your lack of intelligence, type "u"?

ladyneedshelp -> RE: Ronald Reagan on Debt Ceiling (7/19/2011 9:41:28 PM)

But they will try to sell it.....liberals are an amazing collections of contradictions.....

If they had only known _________ they would not have voted that way .....
If they had only known __________they would have voted for it......

Odama knew his vote on the limit did not matter...he was only trying to make the president look bad......he really did not mean it.....he's sorry now he took that stand.....u understand.....u u u u u and u..(dont u hate it that I use u instead of typing out you?). [;)]

Its similar but even more bizarre than their claim that sexual misconduct is worse when its done by a Republican because they are the "family values" party, as if the Dems run on being the "anything goes.... lets party" party.

The debt ceiling is an arbitrary amount set by Congress, it has next to nothing with how much lenders will lend to the government. Despite our level of debt, the US government continues to be a safe place for lenders to drop cash. That will end if the debt ceiling is not raised.

ladyneedshelp -> RE: Ronald Reagan on Debt Ceiling (7/19/2011 9:53:40 PM)

Let's see...I Google obamas plan to make cuts and the only thing that comes up is an April report of 4 trillion cuts for the future (there it is again....somewhere in the vague future) which according to many reporters has no specific cuts.....

Sounds like a plan.........a position of leadership U can be proud of!

ladyneedshelp -> RE: Ronald Reagan on Debt Ceiling (7/19/2011 10:00:28 PM)

Right....lenders to government ignore all lending common sense.....oh and lenders from government)danny Mae/ferries mac ) ignore all safe lending pracitices.....but I am sure that will soon stop Obama said just a few weeks ago that U should think about renting.....UR own house was not such a good idea I suppose.

Dam thee I go...using that irritating U again...duhhh![:@]
