Yes....I have an old computer for doing just that. But, because it is old some things it just can't handle. When that becomes the case, I use my good PC, but with caution in the following way. I have two separate RAID arrays in it. The second array is a clone of the first. Before doing any testing I will complete a FULL backup (which is cloning the primary array to the secondary array) which takes about 30 minutes. After doing this I will install and/or test whatever I need to. If I have any failures or problems of any kind, I simply reverse the backup (cloning) procedure and I am back in business as if nothing happened. I use Acronis for the cloning process.
