Sure we have. How much have we given compared to what we have recieved ? I'm thinking 99% given, 1% recieved.

Don't tell me what you are guessing, provide me some facts.

Here are 6 reasons why everyone should be proud of america, well aside from turning out a below average iq population that they had to raise sat scores 10 points about 30 years ago to complete with asia LMAO

And if that is true and you find it laughable, that says far more about you than about Americans.

Just remember we were the least affected by the US and Europe's debt crisis, because our Liberals refused to let huge banks merge to make even huger ones piggybacking into mortgage scams.
Hopefully we can get Lord Harpermort out before he does more damage, but in the meantime we'll enjoy our $1.05 buck.

Well, lots of banks and trust companies were bought up by big banks when i lived in Canada and under the Liberals. As i recall there was a bailout of Canadian banks, not to the degree of the US but a bailout none-the-less. Many Canadian banks own banks/branches in the US and greedy bankers are the same everywhere imo and they had their fingers in those stinky US mortgages, just not as much.

It was about $125 billion, not dissimilar from the US bailout after accounting for the relative sizes of the economies. The difference is Harper bought good bank assets in order to inject cash and shore up the bank's balance sheets, not the toxic shit we got involved with that should have papered the banker's walls.

I like Harper.. a lot. He is smart and doesnt put up with crap like the kiss-everyones-ass Liberals, very weak and wishy-washy Liberal PMs were imo. He is not perfect and I dont agree with every single thing he has done but I do agree with most and what he does is for the good of Canada imo.

I am proud of the generosity of my country.

Having said that, American exceptionalism is a disease.

I have been to some beautiful countries and made many friends but no one lives as good as we do!

I am so tired of listening to this line of nonsense.

If you have been to as many countries as you claim then you know many have an equal or higher standard of living.

BINGO!

to think other countries do not live as well as us what a load of shit!

Thats why there is that big sucking sound of so many leaving LOL

fuck with freedom like that who needs slavery eh?

imperatrixx -> RE: Why are you proud of America? (7/23/2011 3:33:29 PM)

While I agree that the American incarceration rate (especially for nonviolent crimes) is incredibly disturbing, this is the thread for things you like about America. If you want to make a thread where people can list the parts of America that suck and need improvement, I will happily contribute there too :)

But that IS what I like about america!

After all it IS constitutional!  Just ask any "court"!

Why would you find what I like about america disturbing?

After all it is nonetheless the "freedom" we all fight and die for is it not?

I have a personal pride that is what we have become!  Its the reason people gave up their homes and migrated here!

Arent you proud too?

We don`t act savagely because there is savagery in other nations and places. We don`t let the lowest and worst dictate how we conduct ourselves as a nation.

We are one of free-est, if not the free-est nation on the planet.

We enjoy more liberty and health and freedom than most others and we keep more of we earn than any other nation on earth.

Because we are a nation others look up to.Not just for the stuff we have but for what America stands for and for what we fight for.

We enjoy much more than things plentiful or freedom from want.We enjoy freedom of thought, association, religious beliefs and practices, commerce and travel.

And our Constitution.

A more perfect and adaptable document have`nt been written since and is one reason why our form of government is the world`s oldest.

and there I was thinking americans didn't do irony

well why did you feel the need for this type of thread? You could have started a thread asking people for pros and cons. It's exactly this sort of nationalistic misty eyed land of the free tub thumping that turns people off america

We are just proud for different reasons.

[image]http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o296/nine_one_one/stuff/spreaddem.jpg[/image]

you have your reasons and I have mine,

seriously think about for a minute......

how many countries can say and do this:

[image]http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o296/nine_one_one/stuff/democracy-1.jpg[/image]

only america and that is something to be proud of fir sure.

I would say that we competed with the russians and beat them out hands down!

Especially in our prisons we really kicked their assses world wide!  We have more in our prisons than the whole world combined!

Now thats a guiness record!

no I dont have a franchise to to speak.

I have the unalienable right to speak.

Your husband fought for the fraternity not me.

Misguided as he may have been, I am sorry to hear of your loss.

Real0ne -> RE: Why are you proud of America? (7/23/2011 5:15:20 PM)

well it was his choice then to risk his life so assholes foreign and domestic could line their pockets.  That has nothing to do with me unless (by comparison) table scraps count.

I do not have a problem with that but then you should realize that I do not agree with commercial wars any more than I agree with freedom as it applies to politics.

Democracy and communism are kissing couzins and we passed over the threshold in 33, but the seeds were planted and well rooted in 1861.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_profiteering

of course they left out the biggest one of all, the international banking cartel.

Now there are a lot of fanciful dreamers around that go off on every misguided feel good tangent they can hang on to.   I am not one of them.

Those figures are not correct. You have to take into consideration that approx. 30% of the prison pop. is foreign nationals who snuck into our country.

"Hope and change?" Oops, never mind.
"Lower taxes?" Oops, never mind.
"Transparency?" Oops, never mind.
"A healthcare system we can afford?" Oops, never mind.
A govt. that will enforce our laws?" Oops, never mind.
A govt. that will keep us out of anymore unneccessary wars?" Oops, never mind.
A govt. that gets us out of free-trade deals and sets conditions in this country to promote more jobs?" Oops, never mind.
A president who won't "bow" to dictators?" Oops, never mind.
A congress who listens to The People and not lobbyists on K Street? Oops, never mind.
A govt. who won't "default" to China and also won't default to people on social security?" Oops, never mind.
This is too easy.

Even a quick look at Wiki shows this to be incorrect. The figure you mention is for all non citizens that have entered the US legally OR illegally. So thats not every foreign national. It would also seem that is the figure for Federal prisons, which only accounts for 6% of the prison population.

The world brief for prisons estimates a total of 5.9% of those in prison in the US being foreign nationals. The figures I have quoted may not be up to date, but they are a long way off of your alarmist claim of 30% all of whom have snuck in illegally.
