RqrCompanionS -> An old movie I've been trying to find. Can you help? (7/22/2011 10:17:20 PM)

Here's the problem. I do not know the name of this movie, and, apparently, I do not know who stars in it (or, someone has his filmography wrong). Here is what I do know.

It came out sometimes around 1978 - 1980. The lead male character was played by someone who I remember as being Jeff Bridges. He was definitely that type of man. And, every time I start looking for the movie, and, asking around at video stores, I get directed to 'Meet Bill', but, that is absolutely not the right movie. They have a lot of similarities in description, but, not so much in fact.

The movie I am interested in, starts out with a very timid man who is married to a woman who is cheating on him. I believe she is a ballet star. At the very least, she does a little bit of ballet moves in the movie and she is super thin, willowy, with a big cloud of dark hair, big lips - but, she is not Jessica Alba, as, Jessica Alba is too young to have played her. She's that kind of gorgeous, though; but, to me, ever so much more so.

There is a creepy little dog that attacks the man when he goes out. It shows, again, how terribly timid he is, that he lets this little dog make his life miserable.

His wife is rich, I believe he is working at his father-in-law's bank. Still not Meet Bill, though. lol

Then, something happens, I don't remember what. Maybe it's that the man catches his wife cheating. Whatever it is, he cracks up, and, starts getting increasingly aggressive, and, as part of showing that he has changed, the little dog lunges at him and he catches it and kicks it or throws it, something like that.

It is the sort of movie that made a big impact on me, in my youth, in much the same way that Freebie and the Bean, and, Dirty Harry did. It is a movie, in a way, about releasing your true nature and becoming what you are. Therefore, it is also something that, maybe, would have had a similar impact on someone else who saw it at the theater.

Then, too, the woman was extremely beautiful - the audience held its breath in awe of her, when she was first on the screen, and, many people felt he deserved what he got - until she got really creepy - for marrying out of his league. So, someone might remember it, due to her.

I hope someone does, as I can't find a clue!

I have no idea, but......

If you can think of ONE LINE in the movie, verbatim, it would help. You put it into a google search in quotes with the words (not in quotes) movies, 19XX(year), and if it was black and white it really helps.

Just one line and/or the complete name of one character, in quotes. I found a very obscure old song with four words that way. Almost all scripts and lyrics are on the net somewhere, and your best chance at finding them is google, using the proper search parameters.

Just one line, two would be better. Two names of characters, not even the actors. All of that is the divining rodd for your gold.

T^T

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, outside of my being sure it was Jeff Bridges and relatively around what year, I no longer remember anything useful, and, those aren't useful anymore. lol Maybe I need a hypnotist.

If you are sure it was Jeff Bridges you could just go to imdb.com and look up any films he made between the years you think it falls. Or any movies he made that fit what you think the story line is.

Here's a list of his movies by year.  If it turns out it wasn't him, maybe you could figure it out by the woman.  It sounds like you are describing Ali McGraw and I think I remember her with kind of an afro looking hairstyle for a while.  That "cloud" look was big from the late 60s to the late 70s.

soul2share -> RE: An old movie I've been trying to find. Can you help? (7/23/2011 12:03:08 AM)

Well, he did Somebody Killed her Husband in 78 w/ Farrah Fawcett, and Winter Kills in 79 w/John Huston.  I just googled his name and movies.....that is, if you're sure about it being Jeff Bridges.  And there was "Tha American Success Company in 80.  None of the synopses match what you're describing, but maybe if you see the info, something will click.

Good luck!

No. It absolutely was not Ali McGraw. I have never found her attractive - well, not very. And, this was more of an Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba looking sort of woman. Big, full lips, super thin, super long legs, big cloud of hair in the permed "afro" white girl style of the 1970's.

The American Success Company

I think that's the movie. When I looked it up, on various sites with his filmography, none of them had any information about the film, but, I found it through the name of the actress mentioned on one of them. And, the actress is a beautiful woman with big dark hair Belinda Bauer

Pretty sure it is the right movie, but, need to actually see a scene from it, to be absolutely sure.

Anyway, thank you for all your help. Shall let you know if it turns out to be the right one.

Yes, this is the right one, and, no wonder I can't find it. They changed names on it, more than once!

The only movie I can think of with ballet in it for that time frame is "The Turning Point." Tom Skerrit played Shirley McClaine's husband and she did cheat on him. Anne Bancroft had dark hair, full lips and that sort of hair style, but Skerrit was far from the leading man in the movie.
