Which wines have less calories, or less sugar?

All wines have some amount of sugar, however small. Dry wines have the least; they are not discernably sweet. (Dry means "not sweet"). i guess that the number of calories a wine has mostly has to do to how much sugar there is, so dessert wines have the most calories. Dessert wines can be red or white.

I believe red wine has antioxidants, yes? So, technically, isn't it a health food? And thereby, I am very, very healthy.

I wish I could get into wines, but I can't seem to. Anyone have any suggestions for me to try?

Re: preference, there is no either/or. I like them both! White wine has less Weight Watcher points, for some reason, so right now I have more of the yummy chilly white stuff.

I had to vote unsure because I have never tasted any wine of any type. I've had plenty of opportunity, but I've seen what it does to people, so I won't go near it.

I would make a pathetic wino. I think I've had one glass of red wine in the last few months or so. But I still love it. I prefer dry red wine for drinking and occasionally port for its orgasmic-ness.

I always have both, dry red and white, in the house for cooking.

I prefer mead (Honey wine) especially that which I make myself.

As the only 2 choices are red and white, I picked white as red gives me a screaming headache after 2 glasses.

That'll be the cogeners.
It's vile for hangovers as well, even if it tastes much better than the white stuff.

points!

mead is pretty lovely. =)

as far as red vs. white, i generally prefer red. my friend gave me the name of the cheap, super tasty wine she gets in Missouri. i don't claim to be an expert or a snob; a cheap, tasty red is nice enough for me. ^_^

i would like to get more "into" wine, though. it just seems like there's so much information there, and it's really quite an art form. maybe i'll go adventuring someday and really explore it.

You need a "BOTH" option on your poll.

I love wine although I am not a daily consumer of it. My wine drinking is mostly social... dinner at nice restaurants, family clebrations, that sort of thing. My favorite red is Cabernet Sauvignon, my favorite white is Gewurztraminer although I also enjoy a good oaky Chardonnay.

The one wine I will not drink - EVER! - is Merlot... taste like... I dunno, it's just bad.

ETA: Smack me upside the head! How could I forget? I also enjoy wine during "cabin time" (coming soon...WOO-HOO). Any wine is made better when it is served to you by a beautiful, naked, kneeling female.

I enjoy white more than red, but i think that's simply because i am allergic to regular wine, its worse with reds.   But i think i would like reds better if i could drink it.    On an aside, how many people are allergic to regular wines and can only drink organic?

I get major flu symptoms after a couple sips of wines i mean debilitating within minutes where i have aching in by back, ears and neck and my body becomes weaker and i can barely stand up.

I always forget what it is but its whatever they add to it, reds are worse than whites.

I talked to some wine people and they told me i am allergic to "whatever the name was" that is added and i have the double whammy of having it to both red and white wines, so told me to try organic wine and it works - it has less if none of the "whatever the name was" and lacks pesticides and such!  But i haven't come across anyone else who has this reaction with regular wines.

Anyone else experience this?

I never drink wine.  I only use it to cook with and use both.

Riesling and Gewürztraminer are my preferred wines. Calories are Gewürztraminer 121 in a 5 ounce serving and Riesling 120 in a 5 ounce serving.

I do use some red wine for heating and mulling over the holidays. I have NO idea what the calories for that is.

In response to some of the posts:

It is likely the tannin in the red wines that is giving people headaches. Red wine is made using grape skins and white wines are not. There are a lot of tannins in the grape skins. (Also in the oak aging barrels.)

Angel ~ Are you looking for the term 'sulfites'?

Where to learn about wines: (1)Use a locally owned and operated liquor store for your alcohol purchases. Talk to the guy that owns the store. Tell him what you are looking for. For example, a nice white table wine in a such and such price range. A red wine to sauté beef for a stew. (2)Go to some wine tastings. You will find these all over the place from high dollar to bring your own bottle. Do a Google search for wine tasting and your town and state. (3)Drop by a winery or two when you are traveling. They are typically listed on the freeway signs under "Attractions."

Depends on what I'm eating with it, of course. Just drinking a glass or two, I actually prefer roses. Stuff like White Zinfindel tastes best to me when not with a meal........luci

I love a nice cold moscato wine. It's sweet (which I love), clear, and refreshing to me.

I like lambrusco if I'm drinking red. It's cheap, but it's a sweet red table wine and it's not kept warm it's refrigerated.

Sulfites? (i think sulfur dioxide is added to some wines to fix color and as a pesticide.) If you're also allergic to dried fruit, then it's because of the sulfur.
