Hello all,

I am a 43 year old dominant male and have always been curious about hypnosis and how it interacts with the D/s lifestyle. Can anyone who is an expert in this field tell me what the best schools for this would be in the New York Tri State area. Google comes up with way too many hits and I have no way to sift the wheat from the chaff. Thank you ahead of time

If you are seeking the connection between hypnosis and D/s, My suggestion to you would be to seek out those in the local community who are into the practice.  Go to a munch.  Ask around.  Somebody is bound to have a good lead.

I'm going to agree with LadyPact on this one. I've known hypnotherapists in the past and beyond the basics of reaching a hypnotic state you're not going to learn much applicable. What they do and what we do are very different. No doubt you could take that knowledge and adapt it, but unless you have an abiding love of DIY it might be easier to find someone who shares your goals. If nothing else, your experimental phase as you went through the adaptation process isn't something I'd much care to be the sub for.

You make an excellent point, Epytropos. I wouldn't want to subject a sub to trial and error either. Thank you both for the sound advice.

I'm a firm believer that unless you're qualified to mess around with hypnosis, it's best left to those who are. I applaud you for trying to be responsible about this.

People build so much mystique around hypnosis - most of what you think you know is more fiction than reality.

Hypnosis is simply about inducing trance states - and what can be done in those states - and trance states are common as muck.  When you read a book, you're trancing; when you watch a movie, you're trancing; when you enter flow state - you guessed it - you're trancing.   Subspace is definitely a trance state.

I'd suggest you study psychology to give you a rounded understanding of how human beings operate.  That's probably much more immediately useful.  Hypnosis and trance states can be useful, but frankly I think you need to be a little more rounded than that.

It can be edgy and dangerous, but the thing to remember is that it is a skill both for the person doing hypnosis and the person being hypnotized. Erotic hypnosis can be incredibly powerful. I would suggest reading up on Erickson and NLP as well as finding a submissive to work and practice with. You won't likely do any serious harm unless they are already good at going to a deep state, and the both of you will learn and grow both in skills and learning what works for you. Imagination is key, as is a connection with the subject. Have fun, and don't be afraid to ask people questions (and take their answers with a grain of salt, what's true for one may not be true for you)

Thanks again for all of the intelligent responses. I can assure all of you that this is about curiosity, and not about taking one class and then practicing on an unwitting sub. I know that for myself, I have found hypnosis to be quite helpful when I quit smoking, as well as an all around stress reliever, and am curious about learning more about the subject.
