One of the tastiest beers I've had was Magic Hat #9, an apricot infused beer (Pyramid also makes one that's tasty).  I tried it in Virginia a few years ago, with a very spicy She Crab Soup.  It was a spiritual experience lol.

I wish I had seen this thread last week when I was in Virginia Beach having She Crab Soup. I would have loved to have tried the apricot beer with it. The soup was incredible! [:)]

OMG I wish you knew, too!  The soup was just crazy-good and the sweetness of the beer offset it perfectly.

I don't drink much, so I can be picky! Newcastle, Sam Adams seasonal, Leinenkugel;s shandy, St PAuli Girl.

Anaxagoras -> RE: whats your favourite beer (7/26/2011 6:21:07 PM)

I like most beers but often go for Stella Artois and Erdinger. Stella is very common in the UK but rare in the US as far as I know. Some years ago Heineken used to do a premium export version of their beer which was 5% proof. It was very nice but seems to have disappeared. Of the American beers Rolling Rock isn't bad. Don't really like Budweiser - its flavour is too weak IMHO.

Actually "Irish Mist" sounds like a good name for a beer, lol.

Irish Mist is claimed to be "Ireland's legendary Irish liquor", its well known but thats a bit of an exaggeration lol. Its OK in small doses like a lot of liquors.

I can only speak for where I am in California, but I see Stella everywhere.  Maybe she's getting around now. [8D]

Thats interesting, she's spreading fun across the big water! Someone I know in San F said it was hardly seen but then again she isn't much of a beer drinker.

No offense, dude, but if that is all you know about Ami beers, then you don't know anything about Ami beers.

I thought this thread was about preferences rather than dazzling people with one's knowledge. Sorry dude but we don't need to be beer bores to enjoy the stuff! [8D]

erieangel -> RE: whats your favourite beer (7/26/2011 8:12:25 PM)

I love Sam Adams Boston Lager. But when I was in TN for my nephews wedding, I found a new favorite, it is a Japanese beer called Sapporo which has become my new favorite. Luckily I was able to find it close to home, but only in one store and it is quite expensive so I haven't purchased much of it.

My point is that I think you have a skewed idea of Ami beers based on a limited sample variety.

One can say one prefers roast beef over seafood, but it's a meaningless statement if one has never had seafood. [8D]

I love those blueberry beers. My fav was the Wild Blue Blueberry Lager that I first tasted in Minnesota, but was thrilled to find it here in Virginia, too.

And, I like the Honey Brown's made by Sam Adams & Dundee. And Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, Bud Light Lime, Michelob Citrus.....ok, so I like fruity beer.

Of course, if you handed me a Bud, I wouldn't refuse it [:)]

not to keen on fruit beers

fruit ciders yes

just had an advert in uk for a cider made by people do stella artois called cidre

but havent seen it yet

LillyBoPeep -> RE: whats your favourite beer (7/27/2011 12:22:01 AM)

i might have to try some of these swankier beers; i've only had beer a few times and absolutely hated it. maybe it's an acquired taste?

I also have a nice Imperial IPA brewing in the basement that should be quite tasty.

Good man. There are some really good American IPA's. The Goose Island one is a little too hoppy for my taste, but the Sierra Nevada stuff is damn near perfect.

(Mostly a stout drinker: I really miss Beamish...)

Skewed ideas of Ami beers indeed! lol All I did was list a few generally available beers I liked. [8|]

MissImmortalPain -> RE: whats your favourite beer (7/27/2011 6:09:34 AM)

Jack Daniels...oh wait you said beer. I am not a very big fan of beer, but I do from time to time enjoy Beartooth Raspberry Lager. Other than that it would be whatever thing someone in bar bought for me without asking what I would actually like.

Aynne88 -> RE: whats your favourite beer (7/27/2011 6:12:22 AM)

I like IPA's. Geary's HSA is great.
Allagash White. We sell tons of it at the bar.
Sebago Hefeweizen. Perfect summer beer with grilled seafood.
Sebago Red Ale.
Gritty's Pale Ale.

*These are all local by the way. Maine has an abundance of fantastic brewers.

GreedyTop -> RE: whats your favourite beer (7/27/2011 6:39:48 AM)

I like Blue Moon (pretty fair for a Belgian knockoff)
I tend to get either Icehouse or natural ice because it's cheap.
I like some of tjhe Sam adams seasonals (their halloween pumpkin is actually quite tasty!)
in Dunedin, FL there is a microbrewery that has some delicious blends.. http://www.dunedinbrewery.com/

DavidLee44UK -> RE: whats your favourite beer (7/27/2011 10:04:54 AM)

used to drink lots beer but not so much

more wines around
Instead heading to a pub say midday Id head now to Starbucks
no longer hang around with friends who are members of Camra (campaign for real ale)

but still can't beat pint guiness with a Chilli Con Carne
