pahunkboy -> Make her sell more Mary Kay~! (7/26/2011 5:17:52 PM)

So here is the deal.  My neighbor farts around.  She does tho listen to my advice at times.   For instance on cutting some of her expenses.

She likes to sell Mary Kay-  is into the conventions and all that happy stuff.

However her sisters are being a time hog-  consuming her energy.    I briefly stated my idea the other night- and then I dropped it.

She LOVES to gab on the phone-  She could use that gab to ask her gals if they need any product.

So-  being this is a slave board!  Give me some ideas on what is happening in the world of make up.

Please.

If she needs to increase her revenue how about also selling another sort of "Mary" to her clientele?

pahunkboy - you wanna know who is on TOP of  "what is happening in the world of make up."?

I'll tell you who - Mary Kay sales associates, that's who.  If  said neighbor likes "all that happy stuff," she is getting plenty of  info from Mary Kay using THEIR products.  Probably enuf info to sink a small ship.

Ask her to show you the current sales aids, etc.
--------------
Now to the real question:  How to get your neighbor to stop farting around?  Gee, I don't know.

Maybe, just maybe you can go over sales associate awards with her, showing her how little it will take to get to next level.  Some math needed.... not much but give it a try.

I'm sayin' try to be her cheerleader.  Small steps - verbally reward eacj and every sale.  Get her to need your input.  Coach her, etc.  "Let's see what Mary Kay has figured out for the Fall line.  Let's get a party going. "

If you want to help, sounds like you will have to work. LOL!

Not make up per se but health is an important factor. With that in mind there is a rumour foetus soup is used on the black market in some countries to enhance beauty. Maybe she can make an informal "arrangement" with her local hospital? [8D]

Kaliko -> RE: Make her sell more Mary Kay~! (7/26/2011 8:12:19 PM)

I don't use Mary Kay, so I don't know if this applies, but if their line - or part of their line - is vegan/not tested on animals, she can use that as a selling point to certain circles.

LanceHughes -> RE: Make her sell more Mary Kay~! (7/26/2011 8:46:12 PM)

"Mary Kay was one of first to ban animal testing." Can't cite exact web-site, but that sure rings true.

Animal products? Still looking.  BRB

How odd.... can't seem to find out about MK.  There are vegan (animal free) products under different brand names, but NO comprehensive lists or comparables or such.  Even found one: "Uses beeswax, but it is cruelty-free and organic."  :::sigh::: For the vegans I know, that's NOT going to "cut" it.

LanceHughes -> RE: Make her sell more Mary Kay~! (7/26/2011 9:00:27 PM)

Is it against MK "rules and regs" to set-up at a flea market?  One here in Denver, you pay your rent on a 15' x 15' part of the parking lot and just about anything "goes."

Some good posts here... TY.

Maybe after she thinks on it- she will make a few calls.

She wants to pay her house off early.   If she moves some product- maybe she can make an extra house payment.

Her excuses are-   she does not feel well and it is too hot.       Which I can sort of understand.   Yet she throws dinner parties for her sisters-  who really dont appreciate it.

I best not say much to her.  It is after all her life.    She has taken some of my advice-  tho it took a few weeks for it to sink in.   For instance-  I told her to get rid of some features on her phone-   she signed up for triple play.   Saving  close to $100 a month- when you factor in I also talked her into a pre paid cell phone.

We are good together.   So I should not rock the boat.  We share meals together.   We borrow things back and forth.

I get profoundly depressed when she is away.

She is almost like a wife to me.    A step higher up from a wife- if there is such a thing.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Make her sell more Mary Kay~! (7/27/2011 7:26:13 AM)

is she hung up on appreciation from her sisters? do they have fancier careers or better houses or something? that might be why she invests time/resources into gabbing to them and throwing them parties.
as far as Mary Kay goes, one of the problems it has is that it's often more expensive than other brands, so when the economy sucks like it does now, a lot of people stop buying.
animal-friendly is a good selling point (a relative used to sell it so i learned about the animal testing thingie) but a lot of mineral makeups, like everyday minerals are cheaper and also animal friendly. i can get a sample container of their foundation for $2 and it lasts me AEONS, even when i'm doing lots of shows.

does Mary Kay offer a website like Avon does? that might be a way for her to target those who ARE looking specifically for Mary Kay -- there are women who swear by it and won't buy anything else, no matter how broke they are -- and especially customers outside of her local area. she can put little snippets in the classified section of the newspaper, buy small pieces of online advertising space, etc etc. also, some stores will let you put booklets or flyers in their printed media racks by the doors -- she could ask about doing that.
i know Mary Kay really stresses makeover parties; does she do those? those are great ways to get people overly excited about products they don't need, and get them to impulse buy. haha =p
make a big to-do -- if she knows someone selling lia sophia jewelry, maybe they could team up? have some raffles and other junk like that?

what methods does she use now?

DesFIP -> RE: Make her sell more Mary Kay~! (7/27/2011 9:32:56 AM)

She's 77 years old. How much energy did you expect her to have, especially in this heat?

GreedyTop -> RE: Make her sell more Mary Kay~! (7/27/2011 9:37:16 AM)

~FR~

the one time I got MK products, I was WAY impressed with the efficacy of the items..

if I was inclined to regularly invest in the 'health and beauty' kind of stuff, MK is the way I would go,,,,,

god bless the woman,, better MK than amway!

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Make her sell more Mary Kay~! (7/27/2011 9:48:28 AM)

The people who  I know that are successful selling MK, or Arbonne, or anything like that, treat it like a business.  They go to Chamber of Commerce and other marketing events, and learn to talk about their products.
Unfortunately, I have a terrible allergic reaction to MK, that I just managed to clear up from the last time someone talked me into trying it.  I was very impressed that they gave me all my money back, though, when I indicated I was dissatisfied.  It is a good company.

I hope this is a somewhat more helpful suggestion unlike the others I posted recommending dealing in cannabis etc. [8|] If you get on well together then why not share your place if there is a spare room so she can rent her house out for a relatively brief period to pay the mortgage? The rent may cover the payments, and in exchange she could pay the utility bills in your house as some compensation assuming they would be roughly similar to a reasonable rent for a room where you are.

One of the angles that Arbonne promotes (in this area, at least), is getting people to sign up to use only for themselves. They grow their business basically by getting just about everyone that likes the product to get it at the consultant rate, plus getting the advantage of sample rates etc. So if your friend could get anyone she actually sells to to sign up, she would could expand and make more money.

I am not going to push her.    Hot and humid week now starting.
