I don't know how to work those kind of things out to find out geographic distances using google.

Go to Google Maps.  Click on "Get Directions."  Enter the city and state you want to start from and the city and state you want to get to, then click on the button.  It will give you the distance and drive time.

Mapquest.com works as well.  Just put in the names of the towns and go.

I entered my address and then put in the other town, and at first it gave me a result of Canada. Then when I tried again it gave me Several apartment listing containing the name Brooks. Each in a different town lol.

I don't doubt I probably did something wrong.

If there is incomplete, or questionable information, like you probably entered "CA" for California, it will give you a drop-down menu with other options (like Canada) to pick the correct one from. If you get a drop-down with several choices, just stop, read them all, and pick the correct one. If the one you want is not in that list, just ignore it and keep typing the complete address or town name, and separate them with commas. Or try typing out the full names instead of an abbreviation.

Just take a breath, slow down, do exactly what it says, it will work :)
