A interesting piece about a U.S. company that can't keep up with orders...selling chopsticks to China.

China is short on wood--Georgia has plenty. An interesting exercise in why nations trade via comparable advantage...and it's not about the low wages here.

Interesting. Proof of the fact that we are truly in a world economy. What happens with the economy here will affect other countries and vis versa.

Great article, thanks for sharing!
THIS is a great way to help pay down the deficit!!!!

More and more and more companies manufacturing products here in America!!
We need more exporting and less importing!
More revenue!
More people working!
More taxes collected from the people working!
More contributing to social security!!!

THIS IS THE AMERICAN WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Taking care of ourselves, instead of taking from the elderly, the poor and the disabled!!!

JOBS!!!!! AMERICANS WORKING!!!! PRODUCING!!!!

psst- you forgot smart phones T~
Term, it is a start in the right direction!

Check these figures out, we actually export more than I thought, but not enough.

US International Trade in goods and services May 2011

From the Census report given-May exports of $174.9 billion and
imports of $225.1 billion resulted in a goods and services
deficit of $50.2 billion.

Made in Indonesia. Tech suppot in India.

My fucking landline's support is in India, and every other fucking thing. We ain't even good enough to talk on the goddman phone now.

Cool, the nice clean cool of death, of a nation. Reap, you have sowed, now reap. And don't come crying to me when it gets to be unpleasant.

Chopsticks indeed. Yeah. we still probably make paper clips as well. Yeehaaa ! We got the world market by the ass. Soon people will just give up their TVs and play with paper clips, which should propel our market share beyong that of Xboxes, all them games and shit and maybe even Mercedes Benz, at twenty units for a penny.

Dream on.

This wonderful global economy and all this outsourcing is going to help us solve the deficit T!

Haven't you heard? We don't NEED anymore jobs here in America, that's why we outsource so damn much.

Havent you heard? We can tax corporations at the highest rate in the world, give EPA free reign to backdoor legislate what Blowboy couldnt get passed, and demonize success and the worlds businesses are goingt to flock to America.

If the US had even half the regulation or personal taxes that European countries had, you'd be screaming like past-nap-time child.

Oh wait, you already are.

Oh, and lest we forget to mention;

Being that the oil companies essentially run the FTC and staff much of the EPA, and that the financial industry essentially runs the SEC and the CFTC and the US Treasury, and that the FDA has been Monsanto's bitch for decades, and that Exxon and Goldman Sachs keep busting records for profits, and that GE just got a $3 Billion check from the US treasury, and ...

One can well imagine, those guys are just itching to leave the US!

I'm glad you enjoy sucking their dick so much, but please keep the slurping noises down, if you would be so kind.

I'm always amazed at how this board can take the most benign things and twist them into insane caricatures to "support" bizarrely unrelated ideas, to blow the smallest things into matters of impending doom, and to respond to posts as if they said something completely different than their actual content.

Indeed, far less than discussion.

Sorry. I did not mean to side-track, I just got carried away responding to another.

I like the OP, actually. Pine trees are essentially weeds writ large in this region, and I can imagine a typical Georgian looking at this infestation in his/her yard and then looking back to the purchasing agent for the chop stick factory and saying: "so, you actually want to buy these things, right?"

In answer to others: yes, we sell chop sticks, but I recall an article about several Georgia software companies providing for European clients, some plant making brass collars and sleeves for export, other plants and service companies actually hiring, etc. It was over a year ago that I read all this, sorry if I'm too tied up elsewise to provide the links for what I read in various newspapers and journals back then. I am currently tied up in some project about the Chinese domestic economy. (yes, they actually have one, and are stumbling not so willingly into that territory).

But as was pointed out in another's post about Germany's small-medium sized manufacturers, it takes all kinds, all sizes, etc. to make a full economic endeavor.

Don't diss the sticks.

That's strange, I thought it was corporate America that was shipping jobs overseas, and the US government was the one hiring Americans...while you or one of the other conservatives here was saying those Americans should be fired because they think they are "entitled" to a fair wage and "entitlement" is wrong.

Don't pay him any mind. The avatar explains his situation.

He keeps trying but still cannot find a market for dead cat's teeth, that avatar being on all his business cards. But onerous government regulation is the only thing holding him back from his just rights to a life of prosperity.

Oh, the hard hammer of repression here!
