Dying out? They still have a strong voice, and followers, even if events aren't drawing. But they were naive to political realities of governance, and remain so. Now more than ever the GOP needs moderates, but those moderates have already been purged from the Party. The all or nothing stance the GOP, not just the Teas, are following has rendered and is going to continue to render them ineffective and out of the ultimate solutions (or at least directions, for those who oppose those solutions), as it did with health care and in fact the rather large amount of legislation accomplished by last Congress, while this one sits on its hands primarily. The GOP is setting itself up to get burned on this badly, just as they did in '95, only worse. They are already damaged as it stands. But the GOP has built itself a base that includes myopic focus on irrational goals, and they're stuck with it. Perhaps, in a few years, moderates will once again win their primaries. Until then, just as they did 2000-2006, they're likely to push all the harder, believing staying the course will help them ultimately prevail, until voters hand them their asses wholesale. This time, though, that will have to happen from within the right. Should be an interesting journey.
