Something is off on this woman's story, IMO.

There are a limited number of wild animals willing to attack humans: bears, sharks, rhinos, all of the big cats.  Note they are all larger than human sized.

I find it hard to believe a small feral cat would attack a human w/o provocation. I have never known a feral cat to do anything other than spit and run

"Once inside, Sims said the cat "was following me from room to room, growling, hissing and with its hair straight out the whole time" -- behaviour that made her and her roommate uneasy."

That is not normal behavior for a feral cat (not that I am an expert).

I was thinking the same thing.... maybe it was too inbred??

..............I look for cat stories- and  you wont believe how many are bad ones that I do not post.  Shot cats-  cats set on fire... EVERY WEEK these stories.

Why do you seek them out, Hunky??

When I get an inkling a cat (or any animal) story is not going to end well, I stop the teller mid-story. I don't need that crap in my head.

I search cat stories....   I like cats.

You wanna meet 'my' cat!!! Dogs have owners, cats have staff. Damn thing is evil...

You do realize that cats are not completely domesticated right? Even though we keep them as pets they are still considered to be undomesticated for the most part just like their relatives, the tiger, lynx, cougars, etc....and those cats definitely do not get along with humans even if you think you've trained them. They're still wild animals.

A "domesticated" cat will still hunt for prey and attack a threat. If it sees a human as a threat for whatever reason even if the human doesn't realize it's a threat, it's going to attack....thus...does not get along with humans. Not all cats do.

These are one of the things that people forget when they decide to have a cat as a pet. They just think "aawww..cute, furry, playful kitty" and forget the mice and birds it will kill and the curtains they will climb and the furniture they will jump up on and the clawing to sharpen its claws so they can attack, etc...

FR

Quick somewhat funny story about a neighbor's house cat from where I used to live.  Myself and a different neighbor had dogs that were "1/2 brothers" one day when we let them off the leash out back of our condos they cornered the cat in question, so being more of a cat guy than dog guy at that time, I went and "rescued" it from the dogs.  The owners boy friend insisted I hand the cat over after it was curled up in my arms and totally relaxed (an ability I seem to have with almost any cat) As I handed over the cat it nailed him severely with its claws in his right hand, and two weeks later I saw him in a local convenience store and the hand was well wrapped.  It seems he didn't take the scratch seriously enough and, yes it got infected seriously.

About four or five years after that we were visiting an acquaintance, who is a co-worker of my wife's, and he has several cats, I picked up each one and petted them in turn until when I went for the last cat he said: "I wouldn't do.that... it.doesn't like to be...picked........... (sentence trails off) as the cat curled up in my arms and I stroked its chin.  My wife burst out laughing and said "You still are more of a cat guy aren't you?"

Laughingly,

WRONG.

Cats been domesticated by the equiptions- for 4000 years.

littlewonder -> RE: cat disfigures owners hand (7/29/2011 7:15:58 PM)

did you see my quotes around "domesticated" hunky??

yup "domesticated" by the egyptians but they still retain that wildness in them just like wild cats. That has simply not been bred out of cats. That's why cats chase mice, sleep all day in the sun, etc...never noticed how many of their characteristics are still extremely similar to their ancestors?

True- a cat is still a cat.   If my cat weighed what I do-  who knows if she would be this nice.
