We can take it as a fact of business that whoever the Republicans nominate will be demonized and villified, but the media just can't seem to hold their water, at all.

Texas Governor Rick Perry is the current gorilla in the wings for the Repub. primary, so naturally, reporters have to go knock on the door at his parent's house.

quote:

"We don't talk to reporters," his father, Ray, said when he answered his door this week. "Y'all twist around what we say." Despite promises to the contrary, the elder Perry had no interest in bragging about his son, although there was a small sign promoting him affixed to the window next to his front door.
On most afternoons, though, the governor's father can be found down the road in Stamford at a dark little diner called Cliff House, which looks like the kind of place you'd find in a 1970s murder mystery set

The complete article can be found here, but it seems to me that Perry's father is a wise man.

Yeah, it isn't just a phenomenon reserved for the rabid right.  But Perry ain't going anywhere anyhow, I am surprised that anyone is even trying to get a story on the clown.

This line seems a bit questionable

He's a fucking joke.  I'm from Texas, stay in touch with quite a few of my friends down there through various social media.  No one likes the douchebag, not even his own party.

And so the metaphor she goes with to be "colorful" is one that invokes murder and mayhem, Wilbur?

Impera; y'all is a common word, with near universal usage in wide areas of the country, certainly including Texas.  Do you not get out much?

Since his approval rating is above 50% and the state is only slightly more Republican then Democrat, the numbers dont support "not even his own party".

Job approval is highest in 5 years, yet---

But 63 percent of registered voters said he should not run for president in 2012.

Which would have likely never been rendered as "y'all" for someone the media liked

"Y'all" is a elitist codeword for stupid yokel.

Maybe in the north, it is.  I used to be a NY'er and grinned to myself when I heard words like that.  Now that I'm in the south for +35 years words like  "ya'll", "yonder", "down-the-road-a-piece", and all the southern slang that I've picked up and use regularly when talking casually is just a lazy way (and comfortable) way to say what you want to.  It may not be proper or formal talk when talking to professional people, but even parents of a tea party person, in their own home, saying it, tells me they are just southerners, telling someone "they can all run along with their misquotations", with "southern hospitality".

The use of "y'all" (contraction of 'you all,' which itself is a further reduction from 'all of you') is a simple way to distinguish between the second person singular vs. the second person plural, which insistence on use of the word "you" for either situation negates.

In furtherance to the cause of persnicketiness here, it's properly spelled 'y'all,' not 'ya'll.' But it's not essential to know that for sake of proper pronunciation.
