Firm; On one past visit from my sister and BIL and their two kids to Atlanta from Ilinois, where they both were born and raised, my at-the-time 9 yr. old niece asked me; "Uncle Ed, what do some people mean when they say "y'all"? She and her brother never miss an opportunity for snark (they are both really sharp kids and I love them), and I detected at least some minor element of that behind the question, but I proceeded in disappointingly boring fashion. I asked her; "If you and your brother were standing in front of me, and I said 'do you want to go to the store with me,' how do you know if I am talking to just you, or just your brother, or the both of you?" After her eyes turning down and doing the internal processing, five seconds later, she said; "OK uncle Ed, I know why people say 'y'all' now."
