The only necessities in life as i see it are those which keep us alive. Everything else is just a luxury, a bonus , a desire fulfilled. There is nothing which i could not live without.

A convenience - i definately would not like to be described as this. Its like comparing myself to a microwave meal.

I suspect she was viewing it as a question of necessity in an emotional sense -- ie, you need to have someone there (which still, i should think we could all live happy lives on our own). Obviously in a practical day-to-day sense of cooking and cleaning, i should think we are all capable of being independent!
