ORIGINAL: mnottertail Oh, they will take this. Absolutely nothing changed in any real way; accounting tricks and budget cuts Obama wanted anyway....and the debt ceiling would be raised. The issue is one of same old borrow and spend by republicans... This post is too stupid to address. Really is. I don't know why I expect more from you, other people tell me I shouldn't. Reagan borrowed. He also restored our military capability and turned our military forces from the Keystone Cops there were in Grenada into the best fighting force in the world. He broke the back of the U.S.S.R. We had enormous prosperity under Reagan until the end of his administration. HW was a president during a time of war as well. I'm no fan of HW but you want to judge people in a vacuum and that, of course, only shows your enormous political bias. Clinton was not a war time president, he taxed us to death and he cut our military deeper than any president since Carter and PERHAPS even including Carter. Still, that was a trade off and the trade that worked out in his favor is that debt increased less during his administration than either Reagan or HW. W was a war time president on two fronts who, within 8 months of his being president, occurred the greatest attack on U.S. soil------that is still shrouded in mystery but that is another topic. Now president, other than FDR, has increased debt as much as Obama. I don't want to hear bullshit about Reagan doubling the debt when it was just over 1 trillion and he doubled it to two. Tell me how much debt-----someone give me the dollar figure----that has been added to the debt under O'scumbag. He also ignores that the borrowing and spending was done largely by Democrat Congresses, not the GOP, including them reneging on their promise for 3:1 spending cuts that got TEFRA passed in the first place. Its laughable when people try and claim that the Reagan tax cuts created deficits. If the Dems had met their commitment we would have achieved REAL surpluses, not Clinton's near surpluses. Thank god for the economic stimulus from his and Bush's tax cuts or this debt ceiling argument would be over 20 trillion to ? instead of 14.5 trillion to ? What a ignorantly laugable bunch of horseshit and asswipe. Some conservatives, led by then-Congressman Jack Kemp, claim that the promised spending reductions never occurred.[4] One week after TEFRA was signed, H.R. 6863 - the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 1982 which Ronald Reagan claimed would "bust the budget" [5] was passed by both houses of Congress over his veto.[6] Four years later, then-budget director David Stockman, however, stated that Congress substantially upheld its end of the bargain, and cites the Administration's failure to identify management savings and its resistance to defense spending cuts as the key impediments to greater outlay savings.[4] Yanno, Starwars, and the Reagan commissioned and ignominiously ignored by the Reagan administration W.R. Grace report.
