Aug 1 1981Cable music network MTV launches, by airing "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles, followed by Pat Benatar's "You Better Run." That's right, kids: once upon a time, MTV actually played music videos.

The last line brings forth the question....why do they still call it MTV when it has nothing to do with music anymore?

I do not have the faintest idea, for I hardly ever watched MTV and nowadays never watch it!

The only thing I know, is that we have a VJ (Adam Curry) whom became famous by MTV.
So, MTV doesn't air musicvid's anymore?

wow.. I used to have the hots for Adam curry!

Last time I checked MTV, it was all 'reality' shows with some tenuous connection to music.

But that's probably b/c he married that awfull singer (dutch) Patricia Paay and I dislike her (She's from my birthtown, I 'knew' her and her former hubbie)

The kids of my bestie watch MTV all the time, well learning about loverboys cant hurt them suppose....

same way hulk hogan promoted the BRAND hulk hogan by doing movies

same with Dwayne Johnson AKA the rock

calling it something else would loose THE BRAND

ICE T did films to promote THE BRAND which promoted his music

Robbie Williams was one first stars to get rights to people using his music as Ringtones

there not just muscians

Kylie Minogue did a commercial for Lexus in UK while her world tour was going on

which I saw btw was fab

she was booked solid every concert now if she had just stuck to music I doubt that would have happened
