Fairhaven, MA July 25, 2011 -

quote:

An elected member of the Fairhaven Planning Board and New Bedford constable was arrested Monday after he shoved a disabled man Friday during an altercation over a handicapped parking space, according to police.

Joseph Morra, 53, of Fairhaven, was charged with assault and battery, intimidation of a witness, impersonating a police officer, and malicious destruction of property in connection with the incident.

According to police, a man who requires the use of a cane to walk was unable to park his vehicle in a handicapped space Friday night at the Seaport Inn and Marina in Fairhaven because Morra's vehicle, without a handicapped license plate or placard, was taking up two of the designated spaces.

The man, whom police declined to identify, began to take photographs of the vehicle using his cellphone, according to police. He told police that Morra, an employee of the inn, approached him, flashed a badge, and ordered him off the property, spewing profanities as he did so.

Morra then allegedly poked the victim in the chest and sternum several times then shoved him, nearly knocking him to the ground. As the victim attempted to take Morra's photograph with his cell phone, Morra reportedly slapped it from his hand, causing it to break into several pieces on the pavement.

While officers arrived at the scene and spoke with the victim, Morra came out of the Seaport and yelled at them to get the victim off the property, using a barrage of profanity and derogatory remarks, police said.

Morra is scheduled to appear in New Bedford District Court Tuesday. He is also expected to appear in court Friday on unrelated felony vandalism and larceny charges stemming from an incident last year.

Yes, the closer government officials are to the People - the better, kinder, nicer they are.

Small local government is always better than big distant government.

Imagine what Morra might have done to the victim if Morra was a State official or even (gasp!) a Federal official.

Politicians are bullies, always have been. The feds are just a higher class of bully. They know how to do all their bullying legally (mostly because they write laws permitting it). I was once working as a valet in Boston, when Ted Kennedy and the mayor rolled up for dinner. They plugged my whole valet zone and double parked up the street, then proceded to eat dinner for two hours. While I understand you want a vehicle or two nearby for security, this was 5 of them. They caused enormous traffic problems in the area and cost my crew and me about $370 in lost revenue for the night. While a state trooper, who felt guilty about the situation, was kind enough to give us 5$ out of his own pocket, the offenders didn't even shake our hand (we wanted to meet them, after all Teddy was a bit of legend). Politicians walk around like they own the place, but forget who actually put them in power.

This story doesn't suprise me at all. Hope he goes to prison...But, we will likely be calling this guy Senator Morra one day..

What dipshit said that? Why would posistion in government be any sort of an immunity against assholiness? And if some dipshit, somewhere, did say that... so what? It doesn't really mean anything.

I think you are making a strawman argument against the concept that local governments tend to be more responisive than the federal government as well as easier to affect change in... which is true. Your example of one guy being a dick does not disprove that in any way. In fact, if may even be evidence for the very thing you are arguing against. We have had Presidents launch illegal wars and lie unde oath... how many of them have been removed from office? How many Senators or congressmen continually get re-elected despite numerous scandals surrounding them... and for those who do get removed from office, how much time and money is spent doing so? The people of Fairhaven will have a much easier time getting rid of this asshole than the whole nation had in getting rid of George W. Bush or Bill Clinton. Why is that a bad thing?

"Wow, this ones a stretch even for you."

I just came back , like "D.C. Al Fine" and refound this. Omnipotent really is the word. Every fucking word you say exudes superiority. Believe it or not I know why. But I simply don't care.

You think I don't know who you are ? I have for a long time. But now I have figured out your plan here, and I'm tellin'.

You want everyone here to block you so that you can spew your bullshit on this site without the rest of us knowing.

EVERYONE ELSE, NEVER IGNORE WILBEUR, he would wreck this place without us ever even knowing it. Get it through your head, if you block, new users or visitors do not. GOT IT GET IT GOOD.

Yet another public service announcement from Termy's Terminal.
