Owner59 -> Crazies and Bigots take another hit from NJ Governor (8/3/2011 10:26:59 PM)

http://blog.nj.com/njv_editorial_page/2011/07/chris_christie_makes_right_mov.html

In January, when Gov. Chris Christie announced he was nominating Sohail Mohammed, a Muslim, to the Superior Court bench, the right-wing blogosphere went bonkers, insisting New Jersey laws were about to be replaced by Sharia law, the code of conduct, or religious law, of Islam.

Overnight, the screwballs insisted, the state’s courts were about to excuse child abuse, domestic violence, stonings and even murder by any Muslims who justified the acts with a religious defense.

The internet headlines screamed: “More creeping Sharia!” and “Chris Christie has a Muslim problem!” and “Chris Christie doubles-down on Sharia-compliant judicial nominee!”

The paranoid bloggers went on to ask, “How does Sharia go in (the judge’s) household? Are his daughter and wife in a burqa?”

Insulting, racist, narrow-minded stuff from lunatics who consider themselves patriots.

So, congratulations to the governor for sticking with Mohammed, escorting him through the process and calling these people what they are: wack jobs — even though many of them are unhinged members of his political party.

“It’s just crazy, and I’m tired of dealing with the crazies,” Christie said. “It’s just unnecessary to be accusing this guy of things just because of his religious background. I’m happy that he’s willing to serve after all this baloney.”

These are the same looney tunes, don’t forget, who protest illegal immigration and dream of shoveling Hispanics into trucks with pitchforks and deporting them by the millions. So what happens when they find themselves face-to-brown-face with a true American immigration success story with bulletproof papers and a law degree?

They attack his religion."

"He was sworn in Tuesday in the same Passaic County courtroom in which he took his oath of citizenship and where he served as a juror.

Mohammed’s appointment is a badge of honor for Christie and New Jersey, but it also serves as something else our society and political arena desperately need: crazy repellent."

Kudos, Gov.Christie

We'll show you the light eventually, O59.

"It’s just crazy, and I’m tired of dealing with the crazies"

He`s referring to Islamaphobes like yourself, rich.

Pretending to enjoy the "crazy repellent", won`t quite cut it.

Well, damn.  A politician willing to do what's right, even if it ticks off his own party.  I'm impressed.

The only way Muslims will get accepted in this country is if they live amongst us and we get to know them.  Having a Muslim judge follow the US code of law will be a major step.  Kudos to Christie.

I wonder how many of those "screwballs" were democrats?

mnottertail -> RE: Crazies and Bigots take another hit from NJ Governor (8/4/2011 10:18:16 AM)

I don't think alot of democrats post rightwing blogs.  About as many as there are elephants in Colorado tipping over cars, I think.

MileHighM -> RE: Crazies and Bigots take another hit from NJ Governor (8/4/2011 10:26:36 AM)

Bravo Christie!!!!

I hate the thumpers. I am so proud of Christie saying, 'screw the base and see if you can stomach voting for anyone else.' (figuratively). Nothing is better than seeind a politician do the right thing for once, not the slimey thing.

I know people like O59 probably still hate Christie because he won't let unions run the state anymore and insists on spending cuts, but Kudos to O59 for giving credit where credit is due.

How many do you think claim to be "moderate independents"?

Sanity -> RE: Crazies and Bigots take another hit from NJ Governor (8/4/2011 10:46:27 AM)

What I like about Christie is that he doesnt lick his finger then test the wind before he decides what to say, he isnt a slimy politician

He is real

A few thoughts come to mind.

We have "crazies" on this board, from all parts of the political spectrum.

Other than some "right-wing blogs", what responsible conservative voices displayed "Isamophobia" in the matter?  In other words, I'd like to see some qualify links, of major "TEA partiers" and Republicans that used "racist" or "Islamophobic" language and arguments in the debate.

I've seen more "crazies" on the "left-wing" blogs than I've seen on "right-wing" blogs.  [:D]

hehe ... yup.  That's why the smile is there.

Nah ... more like 80%, I think.  We do have a fair number of responsible people here, but they often get overwhelmed by the noise.

Absent additional info (in other words, I know crap about this situation, other than what's been posted in this thread), I agree.

Was anyone surprised that his religion would be attacked?

With JFK there was the fear that we would become subservient to the Vatican/Pope.

With Romney there has been the crazies going on about his Mormonism.

The crazies will always find some reason to complain.

Congrats to the dude though.

If he ever runs for higher office you know the crazies will complain about Christies' weight. Theyve already complained that he sends his kid to Catholic school.

Hey wilbur, do YOU wanna be on the Secret Service team that has to pry him out of the white house bathtub when he gets stuck?

BitaTruble -> RE: Crazies and Bigots take another hit from NJ Governor (8/4/2011 9:53:09 PM)

I just finished watching the entire Christie interview with an included little clip from a radio call in show where a woman asked him why he was sending his children to catholic school to which he answered, to paraphrase.. none of your business.

Two thumbs up for 'this' issue (and finally a politician who gave the correct answer instead of lying or bleating about.. it really isn't anyone's business where he sends his kids to school!) I think he handled both things well.

erieangel -> RE: Crazies and Bigots take another hit from NJ Governor (8/4/2011 10:18:37 PM)

I don't like Christie but he does stick to his beliefs most of the time, doesn't bow down to anybody.

A politician willing to piss off his base. Hmm, where else have we seen recently?
