http://blog.nj.com/njv_editorial_page/2011/07/chris_christie_makes_right_mov.html In January, when Gov. Chris Christie announced he was nominating Sohail Mohammed, a Muslim, to the Superior Court bench, the right-wing blogosphere went bonkers, insisting New Jersey laws were about to be replaced by Sharia law, the code of conduct, or religious law, of Islam. Overnight, the screwballs insisted, the state’s courts were about to excuse child abuse, domestic violence, stonings and even murder by any Muslims who justified the acts with a religious defense. The internet headlines screamed: “More creeping Sharia!” and “Chris Christie has a Muslim problem!” and “Chris Christie doubles-down on Sharia-compliant judicial nominee!” The paranoid bloggers went on to ask, “How does Sharia go in (the judge’s) household? Are his daughter and wife in a burqa?” Insulting, racist, narrow-minded stuff from lunatics who consider themselves patriots. So, congratulations to the governor for sticking with Mohammed, escorting him through the process and calling these people what they are: wack jobs — even though many of them are unhinged members of his political party. “It’s just crazy, and I’m tired of dealing with the crazies,” Christie said. “It’s just unnecessary to be accusing this guy of things just because of his religious background. I’m happy that he’s willing to serve after all this baloney.” These are the same looney tunes, don’t forget, who protest illegal immigration and dream of shoveling Hispanics into trucks with pitchforks and deporting them by the millions. So what happens when they find themselves face-to-brown-face with a true American immigration success story with bulletproof papers and a law degree? They attack his religion." "He was sworn in Tuesday in the same Passaic County courtroom in which he took his oath of citizenship and where he served as a juror. Mohammed’s appointment is a badge of honor for Christie and New Jersey, but it also serves as something else our society and political arena desperately need: crazy repellent." Kudos, Gov.Christie
