As I recall youre not close to retirement. Dont panic and keep contributing, dollar averaging in the gains that will come eventually (he says optimistically...after all if they dont we're all fucked anyway)

Thanks for the nice words willbeurdaddy......It is in a highly rated fund (and I know this can be an ambiguous rating)..I just never used to look at what it was doing weekly till recently...My ex of 24 years, who  is good with money, tells me since you have it in there till you retire don't worry and I am a bit diversified...I just hate to look it up online now and see it go down as it had been going up mostly for the last year or so!

Thanks to the cowards in congress of both parties allowing themselves to be held hostage by the brain dead TERRORISTS of the tea party, world financial markets are collapsing. Thanks, morons!

Yup, with each month that passes it's getting tougher and tougher to blame Bush, isn't it?
The world is showing a vote of "no confidence" in Oblunder!
He's like a wrecking ball to this economy! He's never managed anything and he wasn't a very good lawyer.
Letting him near the economy is like handing the keys to an 18 wheeler over to a ten year old kid!

Does this mean we're past calling them racists, or do you think they're just out to TERRORIZE black people?

K.

No, they are just simple morons.

Did we get past it enough?

Funny, in one breath they're incompetant old fools, crazy right wingers and now they're,....."Market Movers!"
What a difference a day makes!
I guess we can expect them to disband now flush with offers from the big brokerages on Wall st.
Maybe Cramer will have some of them on his show.

They have over 80 new tea-party nuts in the grand oil party, who made up most of the dicks who voted no on the debt ceiling.

That`s quite enough nuts on-board to sink any ship afloat, including ours.So yes,old man,a few dicks really trying hard, can scuttle a ship.

These were the ass-hats doubting anything bad would happen and said whatever.Believe me,if john-boner didn`t think anything bad would happen,he would have let the dead-line pass as the con-nutters wanted.

Your ignorance is only out shadowed by your lack of concern.

By the way old man, just checked my mom into the VA nursing home and I`m told that things are getting tighter from the top down.Hope you still have a bed at the VA when you start shitting yourself.

People who dance the Independent line dont have to worry about dealing with the fall out from their parties... after all, no one expects the Independent party to ever come to power.

Tax's aren't the real problem.

The real problem is that most people are poor, and don't have any money to spend. The effective collapse of unionized labour combined with outsourcing and the shift to a serviced based economy from a manufacturing one has kept 90% of the population's income stagnant (growing at or below the inflation rate) for more than a decade. The remaining 10% has seen their income grow significantly. Much of that growth has come from the reductions or elimination of taxes, reducing government revenue. Much of the so-called "big government" or "welfare state" is indirect methods of giving money to poor people... so they can buy things! Buying things (exchanging money for goods and services) is fundamental economic action. If it doesn't happen, you get a recession and, eventual, a depression. That's what fancy terms like "a shift in liquidity preference" mean: poor people have stopped spending money.

Both the stimulus package, and health care reform were attempts to give poor people more money, either by giving it to they directly, or paying for health care for them. The argument over the debt ceiling, the idea that government spending "needs" to be cut, is bizarre. At this point, it's not a question of whether the state can pay it's debts, but will there be a function economy if the state stops spending money?

The markets are casting their votes me thinks.

Pretending to be an indie is an extremist`s way of blending in.

Like the way the tea-party is claiming they have independents with them.Pure bullshit. They know they are extreme and want to mingle and hide amongst regular folks, for camouflage.

Tazz, you don't know anything about Independents do you?
And I never said I was a "moderate" Independent whatever the hell that is.
And no, I don't have to worry about the fallout from my party because  all this mess we're in was 100% caused by democrats and republicans, correct?
I don't "belong" to either of those two parties.
Rule and a few others in here seem to think that people "have to be" either liberal or conservative, there's just no other choice to them! Talk about being close-minded.
Actually I want to see both of those parties go out of business but, since I have the most disdain for the Democrats I want to see them go out of business first.

Hopefully Congress will learn to address budget issues while making the budget and not when its time to pay the creditors for purchases already made.

Now that the GOP controls the House, perhaps we'll actually get a budget.

Sorry, Im ot gonna bet on it

Many Independents dont know what being an Independent means.

I never mentioned moderate anything.

And, nope, you dont belong to either... convenient... and backs up what I said earlier.

The only disdain you have is for the Democrats... proven every time you post.

May want to take a look at this, willbe.

http://uk.reuters.com/article/2011/08/03/uk-china-treasuries-idUKTRE7720BW20110803

I saw it already. Its largely smoke from the Chinese, not quite on the order of Putin's nonsense the other day, but largely irrelevant. Note also they are talking in terms of "taking care of the debt"....which is not the same as the raising of the debt ceiling which the OP claimed was behind the stock market problems. That is a spending issue. The article is right, though, that unless there are real spending cuts coming out of the super Congress we may be fucked. But then so will the Chinese and Russians.

Again, the stability of the US Treasury market is absolute proof that the OP has misplaced her anger. Two reasons for that stability: No one was concerned for even a minute that the US would default, and there is no major government debt issue that has any less risk than the US. Money is still flowing into Treasuries, not out.

The rating agency asked for 4 trillion in cuts as a starter to show we were serious about getting our finances in order. They got nowhere near that.

As far as the chinese go, they are not our friends. And the way they are rising, as an economic and military powerhouse. Perhaps the time will come soon where they need us out of the way more then they need us to pay back the money.

Markets, like most folks are not idiots. They all understand that while its good to cut wasteful spending, you CANNOT have the remotest form of fiscal sanity without revenue increases, in the case of a government, that would be OUR government, tax increases. For the top 2%. Everyone, except the tea bagging brain-dead cretins, realize this. Obama caving on this, not to mention the spineless "establishment" republicans, has set a terrible precedent. Think about it....does anyone really think that the country will be served by a "super committee", meeting behind closed doors at times, do decide the countries fiscal policy? Does that sound like the sort of government that our founding fathers wanted? And yes, the tea party extremists ARE terrorists! There is not other word to describe what they want to do to this great country of ours, its terrorism, plain and simple!
