It kinda galls me to suggest this, but if you've changed your password and now it won't let you back onto the message boards, then try resetting your password (within collarme) to your old password.

Some of us can't use IE...

*Hoping that CM hasn't been compromised!*

Are you fuckiing kidding?!
The password is in clear text without a verification?!
And on a non-secured page?!
And without asking for the old password first?!

Has anyone at CM ever heard of "security"?
Oh. but nice that you included an image/text box just to make sure that it's not done by a bot.
What a fucking joke! And I'm the only person to see these as problems?!

Wow. Just, wow.

Dude, it's a CollarMe profile, it's not a bank account. A little perspective is called for here.

I just typed in my old pw again and filled in the confirmationbox........ not a problem to log in again...
On the other hand, I was still logged in onto CC

Just a question? Are Europeans surfing over a second server orso? Because all problems seems to be at your side of the ocean *just sayin*

I'm on so, so what. I kept the same PW because it is just so fucking cool.

What bothers me is that fucking picture of these fucked up letters and numbers. Do you realize that I can barely read and write ? You know damnwell that I am not illeterate but I cannot read cursive writing nor write it. It took me three fucking tries !

So I hope this doesn't happen all the time as it was a pain in the ass, but on the other hand, it shows that the priveldge to post here is taken [more] seriously. That, in a way is a compliment to those of us who are [doing alot of the] writing here.

There is a bright side to this little cloud.

One more thing...I will take the moderator's word for it, but this is the only "change password" form that doesn't require you type your new p/w a second time for confirmation/typos.

The confirmation is usually done to eliminate typos in the password or email address

Really, if that's the case, than I am impressed.

This is a free site, in case you haven't noticed, if you see it as a problem you could go to a site that charges and demand a higher security for the price you pay.

I'm not saying that because it is free it should not have security, but it seems odd to make demands if you're not paying.

"Really, if that's the case, than I am impressed. "

Don't be. I have abilities that transcend language and shit like that. Nothing special really, things like equations without numbers and immediate conceptualization of force vectors, shit like that. Electronics was a piece of cake.

But if you write me a letter in cursive writing you are wasting your time. I always print, period. To me cursive is like a form of art, and I am not all that artistic.

Having NOT read ALL the posts on this thread.....just quick suggestion if it hasn't already been made

Next time this will come up....to avoid any fear-mongering or irate posts regarding this....simply send out an email to all users a week before hand to warn them it's coming.

Fella, I'm not a Mod, but I assume that the password reset was done to deal with a problem that arose suddenly.  The idea of sending out an email a week ahead of time assumes that this was a careful, planned maintenance activity, and cm doesn't do a lot of those.

I agree, this site is run by great volunteers who give us a place to enjoy every day. However, I have to admit it concerned me that all I had to do is plug my name in and a NEW password, and voila - - I could have been anybody.  My ex could have decided to plug my name in and change my password on me.  There was no verification at all that it was me changing my password and yes that did cause some concern.

I'm over it, but I think it's a valid point to be raised.

actually an automated mass mailing would be ridiculously fucking easy to do. it would take under 10 minutes. and even if for some reason the mail system here can't do one, a simple splash screen would work too.

but i'm with ds on this one. i suspect it's unplanned, something to do with all the sign in fuck ups we've had recently.

except that you had to either be already signed in, or sign in with your correct old password to see the "new password" page.

so yeah, adequate fucking security if you ask me.

On these sorts of things why cant they be an 'am I the only one?' thread?

No, gotta bitch about this fucking shit for years and by the thousands.

Oh, fuck, i filled out the password thing and its a scam, I've been outted!!!!!!!!

Oh, jesus what will I do?

THIS!

A simple notice before hand would have eliminated all the "WTF IS GOING ON?" moment experienced by every user. You don't have to go into a whole long "we found out the server got rooted and had everyone change their password" story, but letting us know ahead of time would have really helped.

The "already signed in" thing is a vulnerability. I may have a cookie set to expedite logins, but that doesn't mean everyone who might use my browser should have the privilege of updating passwords....
