Does anyone remember the BBC show The Young Ones?

It was so ridiculous that it was hilarious. They never show that one anymore. I loved staying up late on Saturdays and watching it on BBCAmerica.

Status: offline 		I'd completely forgotten about the Young Ones!! Especially the episode where Neil the hippy had a cold and they put a trash bag over his head to catch the snot....gross, but very funny

Bottom is a kind of carry on from that - it stars Rik Mayall and Ade Edmonson (Rick and Vivian from The Young Ones) as a pair of totally dysfunctional flatmates. Gawd, it's funny

PS: I *still* don't get why so many North Americans like 'Are You Being Served'. It was quite funny, admittedly, but not side-cracking. Was it all those caricatures of English 'types' and the bashing of the Brit class system? Lloyd and Croft were always brilliant at that.

Not so keen on the Young Ones, maybe it helped to be around when it was cutting edge but Bottom was fucking excellent. The film they did "Guest House Paradiso" was also excellent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37yotiRhO1I

Perhaps for similar reasons that so many like Austin Powers? In any case it was a lot better than shit like "Allo allo". They like it a lot in Oz too apparently.

As for the class-system-bashing: I'll never forget the episode where the managers and the underlings shared the same staff restaurant for the first time. It was discovered that the menus of both the managers' and the underlings' restaurants were the same, except that the managers' menu was written in French.

You may have seen him, Dick Van Dyke has been on several talk shows recently, and you know, he can still dance like a young guy! He's about 80 now. I think it was the Rachael Ray show where they actually brought in the old set from the show, and he couldn't stop saying, "Wow....wow...." They surprised him by bringing in Mary Tyler Moore, who entered the set and said, "Ohhhhhh Rob!" the way she used to. It was so cool.

I still think his best role was as Burt the Chimney Sweep in Mary Poppins.....
