What do you think the origin of the word "cunt" could be? Go ahead, take a guess. This could be hilarious. The historical answer can be found in my journal, but post before you look, please. Just for fun! Besides, you could be right and history could be wrong... go for it!

um, I think ya got the idea across on the first post...

Aylee -> RE: Cunt - what is the origin of the word? (8/7/2011 8:59:48 AM)

Possibly proto-Germanic.

However it is only with modern usage has it been seen as derogatory. For example you can find its use in Canterbury Tales.

It could also be a Latin derivative.

Okay, where is the friggin' poll?

Tantriqu -> RE: Cunt - what is the origin of the word? (8/7/2011 9:06:48 AM)

I had a wonderful Grade 11 English teacher who taught us about Hamlet's COUNTry matters, and manners, without using the word.

Here's a Canadian historian's take on it:

lockedaway -> RE: Cunt - what is the origin of the word? (8/7/2011 9:25:02 AM)

It is an abbreviation for Can't Understand Normal Thinking.

lockedaway,

You say "can't understand normal thinking." Hmmm, you may have a point. Any cunt worth her nectar is too exotic to be diverted by something as mundane as "normal." :)

That would be an acronym, not abbreviation.

And OP, the origin you give in your journal....sorry, complete make believe twaddle.

Daddysredhead -> RE: Cunt - what is the origin of the word? (8/7/2011 11:27:35 AM)

FR:  Probably has something to do with the word cunnilingus and was shortened to mean the actual "thing" that gets acted upon during the act of cunnilingus.

As an aside, I have no problem with using the word cunt.  Some women (and men) really get bent around the axle at its use, but really?  Sometimes, it's the only fitting thing.

I know a few stupid, fucking rancid cunts who need to be thrown into a volcano.  Just sayin...

that's a great article. ^_^ i like that it's both light-hearted as well as informative.
when i was much younger, i had an issue with the word; i thought it meant the person saying it just didn't like women, period - but not anymore. it doesn't mean that any more than saying someone's a "dick" means i don't like men. =p
frankly, i like it more than "pussy," in general.

Contractual.

outhere69 -> RE: Cunt - what is the origin of the word? (8/8/2011 8:04:32 AM)

I also like the British "silly cunt" as applied to men.  Anthony Bourdain described it like this:

"On the contrary, it is an unflattering (even, sometimes an affectionately ) noun describing a male person...  It implies someone slightly more odious than a twit, older and more substantial than a shithead, yet without the gravitas required to be called an asshole."

AND...i prefer to the word to pussy when it is being used as a term of endearment.  Cunt is a much stronger and more powerful word.  Cunt is to pussy what Cock is to dick.
