I have an older IBM thinkpad -type 2373 with windows XP.

Last week while watching netflix my laptop just stopped. There was still a little backlight on the screen so it wasn't quite like a shut-down. When I tried to boot it up it turned on, but would not boot until I removed the baterry and then it booted fine with no run through of the boot-up menu.

I thought perhaps it might be an over heating issue and sent it out to be cleaned. He said it wasn't that bad in terms of dust etc on the fan although my fan tends to run a lot.
Since getting it back I have watched Hulu with no problems and have surfed with multiple windows/tabs open but once again it shuts off with netflix after 20 minutes or so and will not boot unless the battery is removed.

???
Any ideas?

Are there any bios, motherboard, or peripherals updates for that box?
After that I recommend WiseEngineer (free) and run it all in deep mode, clean that puppy out.

no. sorry. not a fucking clue. i am utterly stumped by this one. it makes no sense whatsoever.

a couple questions.
1. does it boot with the battery in at other times?
2. does it only crash on netflix?
3. have you tried surfing for a long time without going to netflix, if so how long?

not sure if the answers will help me, but they may help another of the techie types think of something.

(including the questionmark. see if they got anything, do the diagnose, then do the drivers and whatnot.

You might also want to test if it shuts off on netflix after so many minutes while only plugged in without the battery.
