So what does everyone think about the unrest taking place in the Middle East; is it the end of dictatorships or the beginning of Islamic rule. Would liberals ever have a chance ruling in that part of the world. Egypt is still in trouble after months of toppling the regime, Syria is sliding into a civil war, Libya is technically destroyed…Just curious what people think?

It is not homogenous, there has been massive destabilizations taking place there since the beginning of the cold war, it is gonna take them some time to sort it out.

They were Islamic countries often under the control of a secular dictator---Now headed towards a more iranian or taliban type deal---A theocracy of sorts.

of course not, Governments were not based on religion nor is the constitution, talking Tunisia, Egypt and Syria. the governments were secular, the society is another story.

With the revolt, I think political Islam will take the lead at the Government level.

PS: some (dictator) did increase the Islamic movment, in order to take out others,
like when Mr. AL Sadat did, & they (Muslims brotherhood) did killed him after all.

the thing now in the ME, is not about religion, its battel for power, & who will when..... we have to wait & see,
the only thing I do not understand, how in the name os Zues, did they (dictator), killed so many people thingking its not going to humt them someday,

Before Sadat there was (abdalNasser) & he did killed more than 2000 of Muslim brotherhood, & more than 30.000 in jail,
after he died, they go out, taking revenge from the other person in his movment ( free officers ),

I dont think they will rule Eygpt, or any other, the Liebirals who are making demonstrations in the street will never let them go away with this..... even if they rule for small period of time.
If the People in Eygpt did not see fast movment to the best...... they will do it again.

(alJazeerah) did aired this ( for the future presedent of Eygpt... if you dont take our demands in the eye of foucus..... we did take every one cell number..... its only a ring....)

I have called the Saudi Embassy where i live, & asked for the Saudi Cultural Attaché,

Nowhere in my post was there praise for the House of Saud...as a matter of fact the underlying thought behind the post was the disbelief that Saudi Arabia had publically condemned the killing.Sorry if my post was unclear.

is it not being undermined in any way then???
ultra religious groups are arguing now about the (free) birth control issue, while it may not have caused anything but a row so far, but count just how many abortion related bills have been put up in states just in the last two years. Just because it isnt "national" is hardly the point.
I see much of the religious right being worse. Get the fuck out of womens wombs before you can tell another country how they should run their religion.

I am not a muslim, I am NOT in sympathy with them, I just wish people would take the bloody scales off their own eyes and see that they arent quite so bloody innocent themselves.

Take a deep breath, I am trying to have a conversation. You know I am no supporter of the thumper brigade----They can rot in hell.

I would completely agree, if they managed to ban abortion.

The debate over free state provided birth control is not a 'rights' debate, but an 'entitlement' debate very different.

Sure there is an element of insanity in every society, and some are populous in one state than another. But, I don't see this a national trend. Just the flaillings of some loonies. All in all, the push in the US for women to have a more equitable shake in the workforce, etc. is marching on.

We may not be perfect. However, it doesn't take three men and Imam to prove rape here. There is such disparity for women in the middle-east we can lecture while still resolving our own issues.
