Sanity -> Look for the union label? (8/11/2011 6:57:01 AM)

Ive been in unions and was never impressed, but this guy takes making others "the enemy" to a new low.

Union members need to do a better job of policing their own if they want to gain the publics sympathy for their causes:

Verizon picketer places daughter in front of oncoming truck, video shows

A video posted online appears to show a Verizon picketer placing his young daughter in front of an oncoming truck — presumably carrying non-union employees — and then taunting the passengers with profanity-laced statements.
"That's who you're hurting," the man says, pointing to the girl. "You're taking it from our family. Good job. Go back where you came from. Look at her face."

The video, posted Monday, is a sign of the intensifying standoff between Verizon and roughly 45,000 of its union employees. The two unions, the Communications Workers of America and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, have been on strike since negotiations for a new three-year contract broke down early Sunday morning.

Despite informal talks today and Monday, picketing events have continued to take place from Massachusetts to Virginia. In New Jersey, about half of the company's 15,000 workers have been picketing at locations across the state.

The right needs to do a better job of policing their own, even though they will never (in the current evolution) ever get the country to agree with their cause.

I will assume the republican goons and thugs simply ran her over.

yep he was dumb all right, they would have run her over, reckless disreguard for his daughters life
who would trust a republican to stop
Not me[8|]

Sanity -> RE: Look for the union label? (8/11/2011 7:19:13 AM)

I didnt see any of his fellow picketers do anything to try to reign him in, either

While I don't agree with the tactic or with the language used by the union member, the video clearly shows the adult walking in front of his tween-aged daughter until the truck stops, at which time he approaches the driver.  The inference of the headline is that the child was in physical danger which just wasn't the case. I give it to the journalist that he (or she) used the word 'placed' instead of  'pushed', but other than that, I don't see much here.  The tactic stinks, but the kid wasn't in danger which is what the reporter or this thread would like readers to believe.

How do you know that the guy driving the van is a republican? If you piss off anybody enough, something in their head could go "snap" and they loose control. Political ideology has nothing to do with it.

Or if theyre afraid, adrenalin can make people do odd things sometimes. The union member was acting in an extremely antagonistic and threatening manner, acting practically rabid.

The van is going the wrong way on a one way, and even at that, on the wrong side....why wasn't the driver arrested? Is that what you are driving at tommie? Is that the point?

Lawless company thugs and goons, hah?

Lucylastic -> RE: Look for the union label? (8/11/2011 8:04:30 AM)

practically rabid
omfg
can you get any more antagonistically wrong?

You're not making any sense. What does the ideology of either the father or the van driver have to do with traffic violations? I don't know why the driver was going the wrong way. Maybe he was forced into the wrong lane by other people blocking his path but either way they usually don't arrest people for traffic violations. All that is beside the point. The point, as far as I'm concerned, is the negligence of the father, exposing his daughter to such a dangerous situation. I'm sure the man loves his daughter... unfortunately he hates the guy in the van more.

Who the hell is Tommie?

Who is practically rabid? The only person I see in that video who comes close to being rabid is that father, teaching his daughter that the way to solve disputes is to scream and swear at people.

Moonhead -> RE: Look for the union label? (8/11/2011 8:20:37 AM)

Isn't that the American way?

It's the human way... unfortunately.

Sorry, that wasn't meant to sound as abrasive as it did.

OFFS Marc, sanity said he was rabid, and even YOU said he was only part way to being rabid...so yeah Im talking about
ms. overdramatisation 2011 up there with the dead moggy, not knowing what big words mean and shouldnt be using them without engaging a brain cell or two.

servantforuse -> RE: Look for the union label? (8/11/2011 9:23:01 AM)

I was involved in 3 strikes as a CWA member all lasting about 3 weeks. Not once did I feel it necessary to put one of my daughters in front a vehicle. Good grief.

mnottertail -> RE: Look for the union label? (8/11/2011 9:34:07 AM)

I don't think the guy in the video had it in mind to do that either, until (in the spirit of this asswipe) the crazed goons and thugs from the Verizon company that were scabbing ---

all of a sudden maliciously and with murderous intent careened the wrong way down a one way on the wrong side of the road.it is a miracle they didn't kill her, it was the quick actions of her father that saved her.

Lucylastic -> RE: Look for the union label? (8/11/2011 9:36:11 AM)

my god, Im a lefty and Ive never felt the need to put my child in front of a truck either
so fucking what?
one guy does something stupid, but now all lefties and all unions are now offering their kids up for sacrifice?and evil rabid murdering(oops not yet) raving assholes
so you not see the point???
oh gawd of course not I forgot who I was responding too

joether -> RE: Look for the union label? (8/11/2011 9:42:18 AM)

I have to agree with the other posters here, I had the impression from Sanity's OP and the link of a father hurdling his kid out in the road of a quickly on coming truck. The video shows a very different picture. The guy was angry at the company but taking it out on a pair of dudes. Is this Sanity's justification that all unions, or this one, are bad? How many people have studied the issue well enough to say which side had a legitimate arguement?

Now, if Sanity has problems with some guy behaving like this, he should go to a typical tea party rally. Fully a third to half of 'em behave like that when provoked by someone (like Sarah Palin giving a speech). For instance, there are hundreds of videos like this one. Which sound more violent, Sanity? Placing your child infront of a stopped company vehicle or discribing in detail how you would like to kill your fellow Americans?
